A little off topic, but oh well. What are you guys doing for Independence Day? Any big plans?

As for me and my family, we are hosting a get together at our house here in Comanche. I'm going to be smoking a brisket and a few racks of ribs, along with hot dogs (for the kids who won't eat bbq) and stuffed peppers on the grill, plus whatever my wife and her mother end up cooking in the kitchen.
I'm also pondering on smoking a pork butt, but haven't decided yet.
Afterward we'll be watching Comanche's 4th of July firework show, which, believe it or not, is actually pretty outstanding... especially for a small town. They have one of the larger ones in this region of Texas and it's usually very good. Plus we can see it from the house, so we don't have to fight traffic.
Have you considered just deporting those kids?
I'll probably be doing a lot of this:
I have a few tri-tips I'm gonna throw on the smoker, and a buddy has a few briskets. No shortage of dead animals to be smoked this 4-day weekend.
At about 5 we are gonna hop on the Malibu, and a friends pontoon and head up to Pennybacker for the annual fireworks show. I live off of Lake Austin very near Mansfield dam so it will take a bit of time.

Going to Portland Oregon and drinking every kind of beer I can get my hands on. Then the wife wants to stay at the hotel from 50 Shades of Grey. I am going to assuming they have an awesome house cleaning department.
Did you grow up in Comanche Blake?
A lot of time, yes. Mostly here or Fort Worth. Why, what's up?
You owe him money probably. :)
Fireworks viewed from a waterpark.
Polish sausage with sauerkraut and spicy brown mustard with some tuna rolls and kimchi and a room temperature Guinness, my traditional Independence Day banquet. Just one more thing that is great about being American--we get to have some of everything.
Maybe this year I'll top it off by going to a message board somewhere to post a needling comment about the farcical nature of the British royal family.
Did you go to school with Jarrett DeBusk or have Jim Baum as a coach?
Yep on both counts.
DB was older than me by two years iirc, but his mom and grandparents are actually my neighbors. They live like 3 or 4 houses down.
Coach Baum had a pretty positive impact on me, very good guy. Still facebook friends with him, but haven't talked to him in years.
How do you know them? Small world.
Let it be known that said kids are not Munroes. In fact my 5 year old son had brisket just now for lunch. He is all that is Texan.
The hippies are from my wife's side of the family.
DeBusk is one of my coaches and Baum is my HS principal.
What time should I drop by to verify that you know what you're doing with this?
Wife and I are heading to Austin. Rented a house on the lake and will be dropping by to sample some of Mr. Mueller's wares. Also on the list, Hut's and Trudy's. And probably some more JMMC.
Tell Baum I said what's up. He's definitely a good guy.
Anytime Thursday afternoon!
Alright man, I sure will!
Kids are at Camp Longhorn this week (and next) so me and the wife are without kids.
Heading to Moab to mountain bike the Slickrock and Porcupine Rim trails - two of the greatest mountain bike trails in the US. We will also be hiking in Arches National Park and a little kayaking down the Colorado River.
. . . and of course checking this site for any 'Horns news at least once a day.
I won't get home from work until Friday morning, but when I get back I'm taking the wife and kids to Lake Texoma for the weekend!
Flying to San Francisco then to Sonoma and Napa
Hot Springs Ark. My wives aunt has a lake house with a boat and 2 jet skis. Taking my kids and some of their friends. On the way back, my son and I will be going to Tensas National Wildlife Refuge (southeast of Monroe) and do two days of scouting for some bow hunting I plan on doing in December and January. 84,000 acres of unfenced woods. No baiting, or attractants. Real man hunting!
