"NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported earlier in the offseason that the Oakland Raiders had "preliminary" conversations about bringing in free-agent quarterback Vince Young in for a workout."
"On the heels of an impressive showing at the University of Texas pro day late last month, the Raiders followed through on that workout Thursday. Young and former Baltimore Ravens backup Troy Smith both auditioned for the Raiders, Rapoport reported."
"Heard Vince looked good," Rapoport added.
"Young will have to prove that he's made strides in accuracy and picking up NFL verbiage, but he does have the rise of the read-option offense in his favor as he attempts his comeback."
"The Raiders opted to take a pass on signing Seneca Wallace as a backup quarterback, perhaps due to their interest in Young."
"If Oakland does add Young to the quarterback stable, it would seem to confirm a Yahoo! Sports report that there is "much organizational skepticism" about Terrelle Pryor, a draft pick from the Al Davis regime."

Anywhere but Oakland. Vince needs a better environment.
US bates is correct. oakland may not be ideal, but a check is a check for VY at this point. let's just hope he's excised himself of the "keepin' it real" entourage and is prepared to be a professional.
Not real happy it's Oakland. Keep in mind that whoever (if) he signs with will, this probably be his last chance. But beggars can't be choosy (sp).
Is this for a starting role or back up?
I'm pretty sure that his best shot will be as a backup and from there he can work on his game/image. If he does well, who knows, but starting right off the bat isn't likely.
I think they're still hunting for a starter after they traded Palmer. They've got a terrible lineup at QB so far...Senecca Wallace, Matt Flynn, and Matt Leinhart. I think Vince is fighting Terrelle Pryor for the 4th spot (if they bring on another QB). I would take Vince over any of those other four though. Hope he makes the most of it.
He turns some heads and he's probably out of there. Could be nobody wants to make the first move. This from a real VY fan, so I'm colored burnt orange on burnt orange ...
Hook 'Em! ...'til early in the morn.
Can you elaborate on better environment?
There's a much better environment across the bay.
I think the OP was talking about what a dumpster fire Oakland has become. Not a great place to play, unless you have no options and money troubles.
Except that Oakland's front office has been rebuilt from the ground up. And the new GM is building a culture that values guys with faith and integrity. It's not the old Al Davis Raiders. And they let several FAs slip away cause they are no longer willing to overpay for talent.
Oakland is becoming younger and emphasizing what has made the better teams in the league so successful. It is exactly the type of environment VY should want to join. Add on top of it that he could legitimately get a look at being a starter there if he works hard and either beats out Flynn or he gets hurt. Only other place I would think he would have a better shot at starter is Cleveland. He could end up being a big part of what they are trying to build.
So if y'all wanna be short sighted and inaccurate about his options fine. But IMO Oakland would be a great place for him to try to rewrite his career.

Yeah I've read the same things, too. Given their past, I'll reserve judgement until I see sustained change and success. Call me Missouri if you like but they don't deserve the benefit of the doubt.
All that being said, a fat paycheck to play football is an excellent way to make a living, anywhere.
I don't care if he starts off the season on the practice squad. Take it
