Alan - thanks for the response. While Mack didn't appear to be hell bent on the youth movement for his coordinators from the start, greater continuity through retention on account of relative inexperience had to have been in the plus column when assessing young coaches. We know continuity at the coordinator level is something Mack has voiced as important to him based on DC turnover over the years.
We don't know why Gray wasn't offered DC, but I have a hard time believing it was because Mack didn't think Gray was worthy, as you suggested. I'd be shocked if the retention issue didn't come up between Mack and Gray during their private exchanges last fall. I'd also be surprised if Gray wasn't honest about a career conflict if a prime new opportunity in the NFL magically appeared.

Good assessment. Gray is a NFL man. Has been for a long time.
I don't see how anyone can say Gray leaving closes the door to coaching at Texas. That's a very short-sighted, emotional way of thinking and no good business decisions are made that way. I would be interested to know if his leave does create hard feelings with the staff.
Where is Cleve Bryant?
So do we know this thing is a done deal? Are all of the conclusory statements based on knowledge or is everyone just putting 2 and 2 together?
Trying to figure out if I missed something definitive.
"I've heard some of our fans say, 'We were always an SEC school. We just didn't know it," athletic director Bill Byrne said.
^^^^Good post and welcome aboard.
