I know he has been beat to death on this board but he is on campus now and appears to be the only "possible" QB in the 2013 class. Spring ball will be starting soon. Is there any word on the actual plans for him?
I'd have trouble imagining anything but a redshirt, giving Applewhite a year to evaluate whether he thinks he can sculpt him into a bonafide QB. If not, a position switch to ???.
That said, from all accounts he's got a strong arm, so I wouldn't be too quick to count him out.

A redshirt is what he needs and nothing else for the 2013 season
He did make all area 1A 1st team punter!!
Now, now. It was 2A, not 1A.
Ash probably has Swoopes on punting skills.
Running ability...I'd love to see what Swoopes can do at Texas in some Zone-Read.
By all accounts, Tyrone Swoopes is a great kid who is going to put in the time to try to become a great Texas QB...
That being said, he's behind 2014 QB commit Jerrod Heard in terms of talent and QB skills...with Benny re-making Swoopes' body, he could become a great athletic TE (6'5" & 255) & would not be surprised if eventually compared to J Gresham
I would've compared Swoopes to J Finley, but I believe Swoopes will have a stronger work ethic is college...IMVHO
Yep, I think this is where this kid can best help the team and his own chances at playing at the next level. He could be am excellent TE if he works at it.
So a UT team with no all conference, future NFL prospects at the QB position is passing on highly regarded QB prospects in state and not taking a true QB in 2013 and is putting all its marbles in the Jerrod Heard basket in 2014? This sounds familiar and it worked out so well last time.
This is hardly similar to the GG situation when he was the only QB taken in either of the 2008 and 2009 classes. When Heard gets on campus we'll have Ash as a senior, Overstreet and/or Brewer as RS-So, and Swoopes as RS-Fr. He'll redshirt as well and will compete for the job, unlike GG who was handed the position.
Don't count out Ash on being all-conference just yet
