Any chance we evaluate this guy? I don't like our chances with the other DBs on our board. Harris will likely end up a Gator. Bell doesn't seem too interested. Smith is taking his time. We slow played Collins and Luke which probably didn't help.
I think it's about time we get in on Slanina.
If this kid were at a big school or maybe, ahem, had darker pigmentation I think his offer list would be ridiculous.
Sophomore year film: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDa497np-Qw
Do check that out.
As of now his offer list reads something like:
This kid is just one of those "football player" recruits. And he's a hell of an athlete. Speed is good. Acceleration is better. Vision is good. Awareness is there.
I don't get it. Why isn't this guy on the short list of DBs being recruited by Texas?
Sumlin invited him to Junior Day only to pull his offer. Unless the kid has a saw-em-off tattoo across his chest, I don't see why he isn't being recruited. And even if he did, the staff should at least take a long look at him. He's too talented and too close to not take a little time to evaluate and see if he's open to the idea of wearing burnt orange.
I think people are still are in Gideon Shock.
Yeah, but Slanina >>>> Gideon IMO. Besides that, the fans aren't recruiting. The staff is. And they apparently loved them some Blakey Gids.

But it's so much fun!!!
I think the main thing hurting him is playing for a small school. Now, I'm not comparing to the two, but Swoopes also played at a small school and he has offers from everywhere.
But that's just my question. Has Akina taken time to evaluate this guy? That's really the point of the thread. To see if Bobby, Gerry, Jeff, et al. have heard if the Texas staff has taken a look or not. If not, why?
I agree on all points. In your opinion, why isn't he more highly recruited? If he were at Skyline (popular pipeline), do you think he gets offered? Heck, I'd offer him before Samples, but coach's kid, pipeline, etc. etc.
I guess him not being offered/maybe not even evaluated is due in part to the next crop of DBs. 2014 apparently is stacked with them. Maybe that just works better with our depth chart.
But still, if we swing and miss on all these guys we have ahead of him, I'm going to hate seeing him makes plays against us in a Baylor, TCU, or Tech jersey (if he doesn't got OOS).
Well, he commited to TCU this week.
Good get for the Horned Frogs.
Had offers from TCU, Arizona, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, and Stanford.
Got a feeling he's going to be a player. Hopefully we don't regret not offering if Maurice Smith goes to Bama, Bell ends up elsewhere, Harris becomes Gator, Cole becomes a Sooner, etc. etc. etc.....
He is one heck of an athlete for sure !! Baylor did not go hard after him either. Don't know why The kid is a baller. Great baseball player as well possible MLB draftee. 23.9' longjump.... 4.3 forty,,, the list goes on
We will both regret not going after him harder. Saying that I can't speak for the coaches they may have went after him. Just going on what i had heard.
That's a really good fit for him. He'll be a good player at safety for TCU.
