UT athletics are certainly in a sorry state of affairs. We have three coaches that have gotten fat and lazy (garrido, brown, barnes). Their defenders make all kinds of lame excuses for their mediocrity, but it has gotten tiring. No other coaches in the world have near the facilities that UT has to offer recruits. The facilities recruit themselves. But what do these coaches do with all the talent, nothing. You have a joke basketball coach that has no concept on how to X and O. The only thing he seems to know how to do is throw his players under the bus when they lose. He never mans up and takes any responsibility. Moreover, none of the talented kids in state want to have anything to do with this program anymore. I am not saying that he has not ever done well, but his time has passed. The football and baseball programs are in similar shape. THIS IS UT, not Rice. Mack Brown has to own the fact that he is capable of only winning games when he has a massive advantage in talent and even then it is often a struggle (KANSAS). But boy he sure politics good. Does anybody really think we will play OU close this year or someday beat Kansas State? He has gotten and fat and content. Then there is the Zen Master over the the Disch, same story as the other two. This is UT, we have everything to offer kids, so why are we playing in the Alamo Bowl, and not making the baseball or basketball tournaments? And at the same time, breaking the bank to pay coaches that nobody else would want?
I'm not sure if your new to the boards but this is nothing new! Until Deloss gets fired nothing is going to change! Just sit back and relax until then. Unless you are a booster that donates millions your voice does not matter! Once those boosters are tired of hearing about it from their ATM buddies in the country club they will request change!

False. Many other schools have caught up in facilities. Denton Cooley Pavilion is still among the best, but it is no longer the far and away best practice and training facility it was when it opened in 2003.
You don't really think Kentucky, UNC, etc., don't have totally bad ass practice and training facilities and locker-rooms, do you? Even the Aggies opened one a couple of years ago.
Without agreeing or disagreeing with every point, we should be careful not to necessarily equate "young" and "hungry". Saban is plenty hungry. Larranga -- apologize for spelling if incorrect -- was a great hire in hoops at Miami. Sometimes older guys who still feel they have something to prove, have plenty of energy, and continue to learn and adapt can be great.
Nothing will happen until DD gtfo! I can't wait for that day to come. We get a fresh start. All three coaches are fired. We hire coaches that really want to win. It will be great! For now, just sit back, relax, and enjoy the mediocrity that is Texas' Men's Athletics! Hook'em \\m//

I've heard many times "that your voice does not matter". That's also why many people do not vote and we get the politicans that we do. While it has some truth based in small numbers, nothing gets done without the will of people. What matters most is the NUMBERS of voices. The power is in numbers. Imagine what would happen if during a game if the only people that showed up were only the other teams fans, especially at one of our home games. What if it was two times in a row. Power is in numbers and noise.
No kidding. For a moment there, I thought you had changed your screen name.
Ummm this is not politics... It all depends on how much money you donate! How much do you donate to the program. If its not 6 figures then your voice does not matter.
Some schools might be close, but nobody has better ones. We can offer as much as anybody, except coaching.
You are partially correct. The average Joe can still be heard but still only through money. UT is losing t-shirt fans and A$M is gaining them. If UT licensed products stop selling which we are seeing more of that and people stop buying tickets to games; the average Joe will be heard. I don't know what season ticket sales look like now but the football stadium was just as filled up as usual. That sends the message that we will still come no matter what is trotted out onto the field.
Those who are stating has facilities second to none, who cares? I thought who won on the field, court or diamond mattered - tired of the We Are Texas garbage, who cares - when the teams win on the field, then everyone can say We are Texas - at this point, changes are required to allow the players to produce - if DD is the issue, then we will have to wait until he retires - change can be difficult but I believe Texas will hire the best possible coach and will succeed - have faith guys, glory days will definitely return!
Are you serious? You obviously know nothing about recruiting or big time athletics. Facilities are what gets you the recruits, it helps you sell the program. That is why every school is breaking the bank to improve theirs. No, they don't automatically make you a champion, but every champion has the best, or they don't get the big time talent.
I may be wrong but as I remember what used to sell was the opportunity to compete. Royal sold kids on competing for a starting position on a team full of great players and playing for championships, What does UT offer now. We play a weak non conference schedule and in a conference that has Iowa State, Kansas etc. We have a network that few can get- even when they want to and we have allowed another Texas school to join a conference that has LSU,, Bama, Florida etc.I believe Ed is correct. Our money people are getting tired of seeing more Bama and LSU decals on the Lexus,- Mercades- BMW parked next to them in the parking lot of their country club.and hearing Aggie laugh.

The problem starts above DeLoss with the BMDs. Unlike other major D-1 programs, the AD at Texas doesn't have the authority to pick or fire head coaches in FB or men's BB. Those calls come from the BMDs, and are made officially through the UT President. Without responsibility for wins and losses, the AD is left with managing the business side of athletics, and the result for a demographically blessed school like UT is a detached, entitled athletic department.
Until the BMD's demand that winning championships become the No. 1 priority at Texas, it won't matter who's in Bellmont Hall.
