I have been a long time fan of Major Applewhite and had hoped he would ascend to the HC position at Texas someday. I believe he is smart, a good recruiter, a good coach and until this weekend I thought he had a fair shot at being the next HC.
I suppose it is simply rhetoric at this point and may no longer matter, but did he screw up his chance for the job? Has anyone got a feel for what his dalliance has done to his future at UT?
I don't think so but our next head coach will have previous head coaching experience.
By the time he's in position to be the coach here at Texas, there will very likely be a new administration that feels completely different about Major than the current one.
I like Major as a coach but his resume isn't in the top 10 if we were looking in the next year or two. You go out and get the best possible coach you can, you don't play favorites...that's how people like McWilliams get hired.

I think if it really was a one-time indiscretion with a non-football student then he didn't cost himself a chance at the head job. It'll be years before he's a legitimate candidate, and this incident is already 4 years old.
Signatures are stupid. You should block them.
My opinion is that there will be sweeping changes within the Texas athletic department over the next 11 months. I believe it starts soon with admin folks. By January 2014 we will have an entirely new football staff so Major will not be here and the question answers itself. I love what Major has meant to Texas. I love his potential as a coach. Sadly, he has made a mistake that will cost him dearly with his alma mater. The breadth of the sweep will be too wide to miss Major, and his actions, unfortunately, put him in the eye of the storm.
I couldn't stop myself. It's been a bleak week-end around the 40, needed something to smile about. Sorry, it was too easy.
