B12 has no momentum, the sec has diehard fan base, great rivalries...and talent..., A&m got it right, dead on, part luck this year but dead on. We need to admit it , and mea culpa join it ....lightning fast.
I dont care how much money we are generating or , our basketball...baseball fanbase is about as excited as going to the prom with ex girlfriend.
Goto the conference where the passion is....
Those guys that are making key decisiones, are specialists....yes they are needed, but they are out of touch with the common man...if you want a specialist to go to the moon, or argue the technicalities of law, hire them......
If u want a fan base built on the passions, football , baseball, basketball...then u look to the common man.....not the specialist. Ala somewhere theres a gk chesterton quote...
Join the SEC....or eventually, we will end up like the FSU , OR MIAMI FANBASE.... We might be academically smart...yet the no passion,,,no fun....
My two cents...of common sense...

Let me start the down vote parade
We need to name the defense...
Did Roe give you his computer this morning?
Texas needs fresh blood... Starting at the top with a new AD and head football coach.
Why will we not have passion if we stay in the B12? This is nuts.

sorry, but extremely unlikely in your or my lifetime.
-do you recall when one loss to OU pretty much meant we could forget about a BCS Bowl unless OU loses two conference games? that won't change even w/ the playoff system.
-i know, aggy. one season in thirteen and they were still third in their DIVISION.you'll see how much fun they have down the road. they couldn't make it in the Big 12. let's make it more difficult. they get the following-
-Alabama. there are no pro sports teams in the state of Alabama. you're either an Alabama or Auburn fan. football season is more important for some fans than their family or jobs(those who have one's). they are win at all costs and they do it. Saban, while dirty is a great coach and they'll pay him whatever he and his staff wants. he's not leaving anytime soon and they'll make sure of it. no matter the amount. they'll continue to be great.
-Auburn. if you think Texas/OU is a heated rivalry, it doesn't even defrost the windshield compared to Alabama/Auburn. they seldom even marry or work together. they hate each other that much. they got away w/ the Cam Newton buyoff. O.J. Simpson and Bill Clinton laughed. if they're already not, they likely be back at it again. if you think they hate being second fiddle as aTm is to Texas, this one is 10X worse. they won't stay down.
-LSU. not only do they not like aTm, they grew sick of 20 years of aTm claiming they're to "chicken" to play them. aggy gets their wish every year now. big fun. not only are they powerful, they're recruiting OUR state very well. they'll make it a point to kick their @$$ and keep a foothold in Texas. good luck aTm.
-Arkansas. yes, they sucked last year. aTm is also 1-3 against them recently. Jerry Jones is not going to let the Razorbacks lose to aTm. good luck there.
-Mississippi. they don't have a lot going on in that state. did you see their last recruiting class? tremendous. that was a narrow escape last season by aTm at home. the Rebels are getting better.
-Mississippi State. down year, but they've been pretty good. far from a gimmie.
-South Carolina. have fun w/ Spurrier. now they're getting guys like Clowney and Lattimore. that's far from easy. especially as a road game.
-make it through that and you draw the SEC West Champion in the SEC Title game. Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee. lose that and you're crossed of the list.
-filthy recruiting. to keep up we'd likely have to do it. that damages the reputation of your school, coach, staff and program overall. we won't do it.
so you really want that? and if you're a baseball fan, if you think we're getting our face caved in playing the Big 12, the SEC is much worse. basketball? probably not a whole lot better.
"Don't ever take a fence down until you know the reason it was put up."
"Fallacies do not cease to be fallacies because they become fashions."
Will those two suit?

"because they become fashion"?
Good quotes and apt. The Sec can go to hell!
Yeah, bad typo there on my part.
Because it's ridiculous. I think conference sizes are going to remain small. Why go to the SEC and give us a more difficult chance to get into the playoff? We have trouble beating Oklahoma as it is. We are still doing very well in recruiting. Kids will always want to to go the state institution as long as we are putting people in the NFL and winning at an acceptable rate. We have got better overall the last 2 years and I see us possibly winning the big 12 this year. You can't ask for more than that. Yeah aggy is in the SEC but the have to live in that terrible place.
Conference affiliation is irrelevant for UT if they have a great AD and great coaching. Moving to the SEC does exacting less than nothing positive for UT and it does not fix the AD and coaching problems.
Little aggy blew a chance at an MNC last year by going to the SEC and got third in their division and 5th in their conference in a freakish year when Arkansas and Auburn were epically down. Yeah, moving to the SEC was a BRILLIANT idea by aggy.
Texas doesn't need the SEC. Texas needs a new HC/AD... Conference affiliation is not the problem. With the same head coach we have now, Texas would get taken to the woodshed in that conference. Louisville proved that you can beat a "strong" SEC team, regardless of what conference you're in, just as long as you have good coaching/game plan.
Besides, outside of Bama, LSU, and UF, who else does he conference have that's worth a crap? Aggie had a decent year, but lost to the 2 out of the 3 best teams, and then barely beat the sisters of he poor.
"I don't hate you, I'm just not necessarily excited about your existence."
Agree. I'm not sure Texas garnered as much attention in 2005 when we won a national title. Aggy just finished third in a division and everyone's throwing their bras on stage.
Landscaping/Hardscaping DFW and Austin!
Texas just needs to win...period..
Are you insinuating that Jerry jones would pay players to keep ark above a&m?
Miss St is not that good really
Fla, uga, sc, etc play in the sec EAST
wont exactly argue with the rest of that tho
Maybe we need to have orange pants.........
I don't know that the SEC is the answer but anyone not seeing that the Big 12 has weakened over the past 24 months is either really stubborn or not looking.
I always thought the SEC love fest was silly, but the Big 12 seems like a sinking ship to me right now. It along with UT athletics looks extremely vulnerable, which we all know isn't a coincidence.
This is an incredibly sad state for UT fans. The pie in the sky is getting to the point where we get to rebuild. I feel the exact same way about the Big 12.
So you suggest that if UT moved to another conferece that they would just magically get better? Every single conference in the country has weak teams. Historically Texas and OU are worth their weight in gold. We also have risers in BU and OSU. We'll see what Kingsbury is able to do with Tech, but I won't play magic eight ball and pretend they'll be good or even average. PAC has USC, Oregon, and Stanford...everyone else is a weak link. B1G has tOSU and Michigan, and occasionally either Wisky or MSU does something, but the rest are worthless. SEC has Bama, LSU, and UF, with USCe on the outside looking in. UGA is just an all around underachiever. Who else do they have? I'll give AU the same as Tech with Kingsbury; they're rebuilding and no one knows. The Big East is, well, the Big East. The ACC has some of the worst fans imaginable, and the pussiest schedule that can be compared to aggie. They have exactly ONE team that gets by in FSU.
No matter where you look, every conference has their door mats. It's not the conference, it's the crappy coaching. When UT gets back to winning, then nothing will be said about the conference being a sinking ship.

We would not be having this conversation if Mack hadn't taken a year or two off after he got his feelings hurt losing the MNC in 2009. Most coaches who are worth a damn come back even stronger to right the wrong...but Mack took a year off instead. Bottom line, we win we're in...every year. No exceptions regardless of conference.
what about the other sports? to say in totality that we are better off in the current B12 vs. the SEC in my humble opinion is just wrong. the SEC is the premier conference in the country across most sports. how our overall athletic programs are better off as is I would like to know.
also, lets talk in 3 years when the vast majority of us still can't see the LHN unless espn changes their mind and start offering it al carte pricing.
This isnt' the propaganda thread. Thats the other one.
Listen I'm the first one to get fed up with the whole SEC thing and I do think many schools in that conference bend the rules more than most. Thats my honest opinion. But lets everyone on here be honest. Rank all the conferences in terms of ALL sports across the board over the past several decades. I would say the original B12 was pretty darn close to the SEC. But today, no way. The B12 wouldn't even rank ahead of the PAC when you consider all sports, both men and females.
And in my opinion the single only reason why we are not in the SEC is because of the $$$ associated with the LHN. This whole crap about academic merits, and cheating, and whatever other thing someone wants to throw in the mix is exactly that; a bounce of crap excuses.
But hey one thing is for certain, today the whole topic is a debate. But in 10 years then we will know which side of the debate was right; or at least more right.
Just because the SEC is the hot conference now, doesn't mean it's going to be that way 2, 3, or 5 years from now. You can't just go running to the hot conference. For example, in 2008, there were 6 (what are now) Big 12 teams in the top 25 BCS standings and only 4 SEC teams (with Old Miss barely making #25). IMO, we were clearly the best conference 5 short years ago. Who knows who will be on top 5 years from now.
"Are you insinuating that Jerry jones would pay players to keep ark above a&m?"
-i didn't say that. Arkansas/aTm at his stadium was not by coincidence. neither are the other games played/scheduled.
"Miss St is not that good really"
not an easy game. especially going to Starkville.
"Fla, uga, sc, etc play in the sec EAST"
1. they now have South Carolina every year, now. their new "rival"..
2. they need to make it through the SEC WEST to even THINK about it. if you thought one loss to OU, praying they lose two CONFERENCE games to make the CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP game was fun? oh, and don't lose one to a Tech, OK ST, aTm, Kansas State, Baylor, etc. drive down that road in my original post. one bump and you may be in the Cotton, or Holiday or Alamo Bowl again perpetually. nobody is sick of that right?
the SEC can have their own battle royal in that shit hole. Slive can enjoy it. meanwhile, we'll just watch and wait who suffers. and bitch about how "weak" our conference is. i'll enjoy it. until aTm ends up on Maury Pouvich and it's, "aggy, you are NOT the daughter" of the the SEC. you are the adopted one.
i know it's fake wwe wrestling. get past the first 45 seconds, but this this is basically what happened to aTm by Texas http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlRSL0WAFGI
SEC? hell freaking NO.
you sh!t the bed aggy, now sleep in it. we'll just watch and laugh, Texas wants no part of it.
