What are your thoughts on the final 2012-13 rankings for UT in the Coaches Poll? I was expecting them to move into the top 15, but the teams I expected to lose upset many higher ranked teams. At this point I expect them to land somewhere around #16 or #17.
That said, where do you expect them to be ranked coming into the 2013-14 season? I expect them to be in the top 10 (around #6 to #9), and the top team in the Big 12. What are your thoughts?
I would say we finish 17 and start off in the preseason rankings 9 or 10.

Texas starts next year about 15.
I am going to say we finish 16 since we beat a top 15 team.. I think we start out as number 10 next year.
No way we're a top 10 team starting off next year. The entire nation saw how porous our defense was. I think we start off around 15 or so.
"I don't hate you, I'm just not necessarily excited about your existence."
I honestly think they will be ranked in the top 10 next season. Only losing 5 contributors, bringing back a lot of starters! In 2011 we played 22 freshman (18 were true freshmen) 2012 we played 17 freshman. That a lot of returning talent and with the way we finished our bowl game I think the pollsters will bump us into the top ten.
Same couldve been said about FSU last season they were 9-4 in the ACC which is worse than the Big 12 and they started of at 6.
I couldn't see us not being ranked in the top 10. We can return 19 of 22 starters from a team that finished 3rd in the Big 12. Jeffcoat returning on the defensive side of the ball, and possibly Hicks at OLB. This team will be pre-season pick to win the conference IMO.
Yeah, but we're still an unknown on offense with Major at the helm all by his lonesome. Our D is atrocious, and I don't see it improving with Diaz still employed.
Currently 25 in Coaches poll, not ranked in AP (23rd in BCS which is final) final coaches poll 18-22, AP 20-25

Who woulda thunk it?
I'm guessing we finish 20th in the postseason poll and start the year around 10th.
At the end of the day pre season ranking is garbage look at USC. I don't care where we start off being ranked I care how we finish off being ranked!
that was possible before these "upsets" started happening with SEC teams. louisville over florida, clemson over lsu. those teams that we would have had a chance to jump over are now going higher up, and florida/lsu won't fall below us.
i think we finish around 19-20 in BCS. but that doesn't really matter anyway... no one remembers the final ranking unless it's #1 or #2.
Texas was close to San Jose State and will pass it, despite SJSU winning its bowl game. Texas will pass the three B1G teams in the 20s that lost on Jan. 1 (Wisconsin, Michigan, Nebraska). Texas will pass UCLA and NIU since those two lost so badly. Texas might catch Oregon State. It might not. Texas won't pass anyone else.
18 or 19.
17 to end 2012.
12 to start 2013.
I don't see how we are favored to win the Big 12 based on our 3 yr history, national reputation and a coach who thinks OU is no more important than Kansas or Iowa State.
For those of you who think Texas finishes higher than 18, who else could it pass other than the 7 teams I mentioned two posts up?
Utah State started 5 spots ahead and won by 26.
Louisville started 7 spots ahead and knocked off Florida.
Northwestern started 8 slots ahead and won by 14.
Boise State started 10 slots ahead and won.
The next lowest ranked team to lose a bowl game will be either OU or A&M, and Texas started 14 and 16 spots behind those two and won't catch either of them, even if the score of the Cotton Bowl is on the order of 50-0.
y'all are missing the best part. with the loss of #3 florida, #5 kansas state & #8 lsu, aTm will be at least # 6 after stomping ou. with stanfords weak victory, maybe #5. that has to put a smile on your face!
Should be #5 after that ass kicking that was administered to OU. What do ya think?
congrats to the aggies on one good year.
now i know how they felt the past 2 decades.
can you imagine any UT fan thinking that a cotton bowl victory would be a successful year between 2000-2009 prior to the start of the season?
no, seriously. hell of a job by the aggies.
Texas will be in the 15-20 range to start next year, not sure they've proven they belong there.
yeah I guess.
And to think I was downvoted for listing the 5 teams that Texas wouldn't pass and which finished in spots 13-17.
The biggest problem concerning next season is the fact that included in those who are returning is Manny Diaz.

It is just the way polls work that only moderately informed people look at the records of the teams from the prior year, factor in returning players, history of the program, and factor in improvement or falloff based on that information. We will be ranked between 9-13 to start the year depending on other team's comparable stats. Do we deserve it? Probably not without improving a lot in the spring, but it is what it is.
