Mike Davis said he has not signed with an agent yet
Joe Schad @schadjoe
Mike says he knows he tweeted he was staying but he hopes fans understand it was a family decision
Not a smart move, could be a 2nd-3rd round guy next year. Hope he holds off on hiring an agent. If we still had Goodwin I would not care as much.
Damn shame, hope it works out for him
Can't blame him. Had really good stats this year and could of been better without so many underthrows.
Extra full Monty idiot alert!
I like Mike. He is a shifty WR.
I'm rooting for him.

I doubt he wanted to leave, probably needs money.

Mike Davis said he's been told he's a third rounder but hopes to improve upon that rating
Looks like a 3rd rounder.
No ill will here. Shnsajax post however points to a big difference between a fan and player's thought process. You say it is not a smart move because Davis COULD be a 2nd or 3rd round pick next year but then say you wouldn't care as much if Goodwin was returning. It reads like you think this isn't a smart move because the team loses Goodwin and this really hurts WR depth.
But from Mike's POV, he could get injured, regress, or [enter one of many other possibilities such as no improvement at QB] and lose money by actually hurting his draft spot, or at least delay the payday for an entire year. Of course there's a chance that he could kill it next year and ultimately gain money by coming back; possibly more money than he will lose by delaying payment for another year. But that is pretty risky if you ask me, even if everything is fine and comfortable as is for Mike and his loved ones. But if people are in need now then the scales tip even further toward leaving now.
The university will field a team next year and the year after with or without Mike, and Mike will always be a longhorn whether he leaves now or later. The team's needs should carry some weight in Mike's decision but it is not number 1, 2, or probably 3 on the list of his priorities at this time. I certainly do not fault him and I do not believe this is a poor decision.

Figured he'd get a little more support from teammates...
Greg Daniels @GregDaniels81
Mike don't do it. @MikeDavis_1
I'm sure you meant this to be a negative quote, but Crabtree has actually gotten to be a good receiver in the league. He killed himself with the long holdout the first year and then had a myriad of QB, coaching, and off season issues while showing steady improvement over the next 2 years. This year he had 1100 yards with 9 Tds. Mike could do worse as far as a career path is concerned.
I hope he reconsiders. I could see him being a 2nd round guy if he waits another year, especially if Ash continues to improve and our OL gets better (all five are coming back). Third round this year? I don't see it for him. Hope I'm wrong but I could see him falling somewhere in the 5th-7th. He's had a statistically good season but hasn't garnered a lot of media attention. He doesn't seem like the type of guy that will put up beast numbers at the combine either.
Mods - do you think he will receive a combine invite?

Adrian Phillips @Phillips_17
I am Tevin Jackson @Tjack_11
Cayleb Jones thinks he could do the job just as well......
Adrian Colbert Jr @AdrianColbert26
I appreciate the confidence actually. I hope he can back it up but if the talk leads to working harder this summer then I'm all for it.
I like that.
Is the WR position loaded in the 2014 draft? I think he needs another year, but I could understand leaving if that's the case.
Good luck to Mike Davis in the NFL
Look at the bright side. Texas finally had someone good enough on offense to declare early for the draft. I think Charles and Finley were the last ones.
We do not know what kind of family needs his family has. Hope it works out for him. He had a good year. Hope he gets with a good team does well. If he is fast enough, he could move up some. I like some of our young wide outs myself. Time for them to step up and get ready to go.
mikefinger: Might've told Schad before anyone at UT. RT @ranriggs Tweets from #UT players, presumably referring to Davis report: "Wow." "Dang" "Well..."
Things sound real harmonious right now on the 40 Acres.
I was speaking of where he likely lands in the draft. Imo, you make good career decisions without emotion clouding your judgement.
