I prefer Moynihan at DH and Weiss in the lineup, but OK. Let's hope we get to the UTPA guy.
Signatures are stupid. You should block them.
You will don't worry....
We're just about set. Expecting the Texas bats to wake up against a pitcher far less talented than the starters they had to face out in Palo Alto over the weekend.
UTPA gets a leadoff hit down the third base line but the next three all go down by way of ground out.
Great snag by Silver at first on the second out throw from Weiss at third, and a couple nice plays by Hinojosa at short. Good start for Hollingsworth.
Bottom 1st: 0-0
A four-pitch walk and HBP gets Pan Am pitcher Sam Street an early visit from the coach.
Two on, none out in the bottom of the first.
Horns are on the board and threatening for more after back to back hits by Erich Weiss and Mark Payton.
Weiss' single to left scored Hall and Payton's hit to right loaded the bases.
As I type that Hinojosa hits a FC to third, 5-2. Bases still loaded with one gone.
Texas can't take advantage of a bases loaded, no outs situation as Hinojosa grounds into a FC to third, Montalbano went down swinging and Silver grounds to second.
Horns got on the board, but a disappointing inning as they left a lot of potential runs out there.
Top 2nd: 1-0 Texas
Only we could have the bases loaded with no outs and not get a run across. Just flat out disappointing, especially against UT Pan American.
Another leadoff hit for Pan Am with a double to right-center that Payton can't cut off.
And again Hollingsworth retires the next three. Three easy outs for the defense: two flies to left and a grounder to second.
The Pan Am bats got better contact on Hollingsworth in the second but the results were the same.
Bottom 2nd: 1-0 Texas
Bottom five of the Texas order go a combined 0-for-4 after the top four went 2-for-2 with a run and RBI in the first go 'round.
Two outs with Hall up.
Top of the order getting it done again. Hall and Walla both draw walks and Weiss brings them home with a double to deep right.
Payton robbed of an RBI hit to right by the Pan Am first baseman making a great leaping grab to snag the line drive.
Horns add to their total though after Weiss' 2RBI double.
Top 3rd: 3-0 Texas
Top four of the order are now 3-for-4 (3BB, HBP), 3R, 3RBI.
Third straight time the Pan Am leadoff hitter has reached. Hollingsworth gives up his first walk of the day to the Pan Am No. 9 hitter.
Dave you are doing a much better job of coordinating the offense today...............keep up the good work!
"Leadership is wisdom, courage and great carelessness of self"
The walk followed up with a base hit and sac bunt have runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out here in the top of the 3rd for Pan Am.
Hollingsworth gets out of the jam with a diving catch in right by Mark Payton. Probably shouldn't have been that hard, but it looks like the sun is making fly balls to right really tricky (probably had to due with his poor angle in allowing the double in the second).
Pan Am threatens, but Texas keeps them off the scoreboard in the third.
Bottom 3rd: 3-0 Texas
Got here early to give Augie some tips.
Hinojosa leads off with a single to center and Felts reaches with an error on the Pan Am third baseman, but Montalbano grounds to short, Silver goes down looking and Marlow flies to center to keep Texas off the board in the third.
Top 4th: 3-0 Texas
Gotta find some productive hitters for the bottom of the order. The top 5 today has only made two outs, and they were both crushed. The bottom 4 has only had one base runner on an error and has left a small village on the base paths.
Four innings in and Pan Am's leadoff hitter has found his way on base every time. This one a single to center by the No. 5 hitter, Will Klausing.
It finally comes back to bite Hollingsworth as Pan Am gets its first run of the day, a one-out FC to to second that scored the Klausing from third.
Hollingsworth gets out of the jam with a first-pitch ground out to second for out No. 3 with runners on 1st and 2nd.
Duke is warming up in the Texas pen and I would expect to see him soon. Hollingsworth struggling more and more every inning.
Bottom 4th: 3-1 Texas
After all that talk about how great the top of the Texas order is hitting today hitters 1-3 go down in order in the bottom of the 4th.
Hall had good contact but the ball died in the strong inward left-to-right wind. Walla went down swinging and Weiss grounds to third. Horns still leading as we roll into the 5th
Top 5th: 3-1 Texas
