Determine which HIgh Schools produce the best prospects and put those coaches on the payroll as analysts.
I don't know how anyone can defend the issue that Bobby just brought up. I was completely unaware of this change in landscape and I find it fascinating as well as troubling. For a comparison, Apple has a ton of cash that they're sitting on and are pretty much at the top of the tech world right now. However, if they sit around and do nothing while their competitors are investing in R&D, who do you think will be on top in 10 years? The problem is that the University of Texas fell from the perch rather quickly 4+ years ago and we still aren't doing anything about it despite having a cash advantage.
Is this a type of position that someone like Claude Mathis could step into?
Well done, sir.
"I don't hate you, I'm just not necessarily excited about your existence."
I'm sure you're smart enough to figure out that Bama uses this to their full advantage, thus winning more games and NC's. No one is stupid enough to believe this is just another crap on Mack Brown thread. You may see it that way, but that just lends credence to the fact that you work at Belmont.
He'll whistle while he works.
Remember when every football program in America had a nutritionist? Took us years to realize we needed one. We're more concerned about giving Mack and the coaches raises every year for sub par performances.
According to this article only about 40 colleges have nutritionist. As of last fall only 4 teams in the Big 12 including Texas had nutritionist. This is fairly new to college sports.

That's called the "Scott Drew approach" :)
This is not a slam at Mack.
However, Deloss Dodds needs to know the landscape of college football before he may veto the significant addition of staff.
Adding layers of staff is worthless unless you have a plan for them that you think will help your program win more and/or attract better student athletes.
I feel like Texas needs more recruiting personnel (both evaluators, personnel developers and communicators) and more scouting personnel (opponent and self scout).

Even a 20 person department at $150,000 per head fully loaded compensation would be in total significantly less (about half) than Mack's fully loaded individual comp.
In fact, I would argue that even if Texas couldn't afford it -- and of course they can -- they'd be better off hiring a hungry, young hc for a paltry $3mm and hiring the staff that we need.
Having said that we can afford any hc we want and a state of the art staff too.
And, Shawn Bradley, Bobby didn't take any personal shots at Mack. If others do, that's not his fault. I'd prefer to see posters criticize Mack and Dodds' approach without the personal venom -- see the difference between Bobby's post and CTJ's from a few days ago.

Without going too in-depth, I think he wants to add personnel but I'm not sure if he's going to be able to go as far as he needs to from a head-count standpoint.
I lost what little hope I had left in Mack when he brought up the subject of being able to hire as many non coaching personel and he said that it wasnt fair to smaller schools. This is a huge advantage for Texas yet he wants to get it overturned because its not fair. Nick Saban will go and get an army of people and not woring about fairness or having to lay them off if it gets overturned.
I would prefer they gracefully exit stage left and some new blood handle the new recruiting department but since that doesn't seem to be the case hopefully they will wake up and get current with the Alabamas of the world.
Great insight lately Bobby!

Sure. Not sure he'd necessarily be a good hire or want the position.
yup.. stop treating like a cash cow as all cows eventually will wither away. You need to invest or the product suffers.... cash flow slows..
I guess if you were a real CEO, someone would figure that out..
Totally off topic, apple invests plenty in R&D. They need to return cash to the shareholders instead of investing ridiculous amounts of money in bad acquisitions.
Thanks for keeping this on topic and boiling it down. Like any other business, you make the best hires and most strategic. There is a point of max result and building a good team inside the team. This particular team needs to have a sense of urgency, be really good at what they do, and love doing it. You can over hire, but you have to start it. Start with guys you trust for certain aspects. Not all former players, or current HS Head Coaches may want to do this either b/c they have other aspirations or may not be suited. Thanks for pointing out all of the areas. The fun will be discussing who we think would be good and seeing who they come up with. At Bama, who is the Direct Report for these different areas and who runs it for them?
I realize that things like this fly over a lot of heads, but this is a game of guerrilla tactics against an institutional monolith.
Bobby's crew wears a completely different set of risks and works with a completely different set of tools than someone like the meanie "CTJ", but the ultimate goal of affecting change remains the same.
I'm ok with the condescension, but at least take an effort to understand what you're reading.
To put my comment in context, I typically enjoy and appreciate your posts. I thought that one was over the top. Apparently the many who upvoted you disagree with me.
However, my reading comprehension skills are fine -- at least good enough to understand that "dickless clown" detracts from the argument. Only my opinion though. I agree with you on the substance and will always read what you write.
One more thing that needs to be put out there.
Deloss hasn't done anything yet. But it's important to note he can't do anything until Aug. 1. That's when we'll know what Texas' response is to this.
Sounds like Chris Jessie has a promotion coming his way. I would think Mack would assign Mad Dog some of these duties as well, but that sandbox isn't going to clean itself.
So you start a thread asking if they should do something about this, knowing that they can't for another 6 months?
