One of the best reasoned, superbly composed pieces ever written about Longhorn football
There was a well reasoned sadness to it.
Some of his best work.
Scipio gets it , but currently there is no one in power or influence around UT who is motivated to make a change. The donors of significance have unprecedented access to the program under their close friend Mack Brown. They really don't want to endanger losing their personal playground, even at the cost of continued mediocrity and some barking from the proletariot.
Hell of an article, the best I've read in awhile. I also like how it was hysterical and gives a good man a nice send off. Mack deserves our respect as a man.
I just really really hope for everyone's sake, he sees the writing on the wall. We don't need a civil war.
"Auferre, trucidare, rapere, falsis nominibus imperium; atque, ubi solitudinem faciunt, pacem appellant".
When UT interviews a prospective head coach the first question they ask should be if they have read that article.
Great piece. That boy can write.
No the first question they should ask is do they understand they must beat OU, then they can ask whatever they want. We need someone who gets the rivalry, or whatever this has been the past couple of years since we havent won since McCoy.
XoGisele, Ashley Sky, Niki Skyler
After reading that, I'm really not sure what more can or needs to be said.
He nailed it. It is time to move on. There is no joy in it but it is time to move on.
247 needs to buy him out and bring him on board....excellent article.
Really well done. Time for a change, period.
“Kansas may wind up number one in these polls, but that would be so unfair to Texas...” -- Len Elmore, 2/13/11
Ditto on all the good stuff being said about Scipio Tex's article. Great article, thanks to ST for writing. I'd love to have your talent for just one hour, I'd use it to fire off a letter to the BOR and copy Powers. Dodds is a lost cause. Thanks
Scipio consistently manages to summarize precisely those thoughts that I myself, am unable to succinctly synthesize.
Disciplina praesidium civitatis
You're not giving yourself enough credit. You just used "succinctly synthesize" in a sentence.
Succently synthesize, now I feel better
Yep, excellent piece. Now if only people like Scipio had influence within the University.
ScipioTex for AD. The man is the ultimate wordsmith on Texas football. I have never read any article by Scipio during the past 10 years that did not make me say wow.
He is the Truth indeed.
ScipioTex we love you Man.
"Leadership is wisdom, courage and great carelessness of self"
Conference champs aren't "lost in the desert". There was only one year between the year Mack was hired and two conference championships in a row, the last SWC and the first Big 12. This idea that the program was dead just because we went 4-7 the year before he was hired is superficial and inaccurate. See the thread "Let's take a look back at the program that Mack inherited". Mack inherited more talent on that team than we have today.
