I think he will. He mentioned in his press conference how the rule changes are going to affect recruiting. He mentioned colleges hiring NFL recruiting coordinators and evaluators. I'm hoping he'll have a recruiter in every Texas HS.
Is there anything in the rules that would prohibit hiring each and every TX high school football coach as a "consultant" at $1000/mo in order to evaluate and advise on talent?
There are 1700 high schools in Texas. Say 500 of these play a respectable level of football. That would only cost you $6M per year.
Thats some funny arse chit not matter what side of the fence you are on.
While I am with the group that still wants Mack gone; I have to admit he did the right thing with his comments.
He is putting any future recruits who commit and then want to check someone else out on notice that if they commit and then go looking, Texas will also. That's fair.
Allowing these kids to commit to you so they have a back-up scolly in case someone they like better eventually offers them a scolly and then they leave you hanging is pretty bad.
Mack is saying that from now on if you commit to Texas then you had better be absolutely positive that that is where you want to go. If you can't make that commitment, then keep looking until you find one you like.
It's either this strategy or we can do like many other schools are doing and that is offer every one we think we want a scolly and then pick and choose the ones we really want right before signing day.
Recruiting is a game played by coaches and recruits. Recruits want to go to the school they see as the best fit; coaches want the best players that fit their scheme.
We should be recruiting back up plans at every position constantly. While our class isn't a terrible one by any means, this recruiting cycle has been an abject failure. 6 decommits? Not one single defensive line recruit? Losing two head to head battles with Baylor?
And THIS is the thing Mack brings up? How about getting torched by OU (again), almost losing to Kansas, and failing to show up for TCU? The problem is Mack. The sooner people figure this out, the sooner we can turn this thing around
You are a innovative thinker, my friend! That would teach people to mess with Texas!
