This will probably get deleted and I'll get banned, but Sumlin isn't burning bridges because he's not pulling any offers. He's trying to upgrade the roster with the room we have. No one told Quincy to decommit. We are losing 2 starting WR, 1 senior contributor, 1 non-contributing senior, freshman Thomas Johnson looks like he won't return...that's 5 WRs gone this offseason. Sumlin and A&M need options.
Now that's a post I can read and assimilate. Maybe you can teach the rest of your brethren how to post.
Sumlin probably hasn't tweeted this many "Yessir"s since the day Thomas Johnson went missing.
We know there are needs. The fact of the matter is that right now you have 35 commits and offers still out to kids when your number is already at 35. You have more WR and LB commits than we have commitments period. Something has to give at some point. You think over the course of the next month you're not going to get any more commitments and 10 of your current, and probably least talented, commitments are going to "miraculously" all of a sudden lose interest in playing for A&M? It doesn't work that way. You can't do what Sumlin's doing as a coach and everything is just fine by the first week in February. They're not free agents it's not the NFL.

There is a total of 85 scholarships available and losing a few seniors won't make the numbers add up. Last year Texas signed 28 but can only sign around 20 this year while only losing 5 or 6seniors. I suspect several of th Aggies 35 recruits won't make it on campus next year and some won't have the grades.
Good post. The mods over here aren't so quick to banned opposing team posters as long as they stay civil.
I agree, Sumlin is trying to upgrade his roster with his players.
When you win games like A&M has been doing, then the head coach can do it his way until proven otherwise.
I think you're forgetting about early enrollees...we have 9 guys coming in in January that will have no barring on the 25 man rule for Feb.
1 Prep school
That gets us to 26. 99% chance (according to various site mods) Derrick Griffin and Victor Davis will not qualify. That alone gets us to 24. So technically, we still have room.
That's the thing, we only signed 19 last year, 4 of them being early enrollees, and 1 guy not qualifying. We have room to take a ton of EEs for '13, leaving room for the full 25 in Feb.
ESPN's A&M site had a large detailed article on the subject.
Then why doesn't Notre Dame and Ohio State do this? Why not Florida State, or Clemson? How come they all aren't doing this? It's because of the SEC's rules on oversigning. They are nonexistent. It's a problem but that's how the conference operates. Is Sumlin wrong for following suit with the rest of the SEC? ABSOLUTELY NOT. I personally just don't know how the high school coaches in Texas will react if there are kids who are dead set on going to A&M and are told they aren't able to attend. It's different now with social media than it was in the past. It happens to one kid people will know.
A&M basically got what amounts to a one-year exemption from the SEC signing rule. Whatever limitations the SEC has doesn't impact A&M until the 2014 class.
As aggiechip said, Griffin and Victor Davis aren't expected to qualify. Justin Manning is also likely a double sign with a JC and it'll be close from what I'm told.
So you think you're going to sign just one more guy? Only one more and that's only fine IF BOTH of those two kids don't qualify. You really think this is your class? As it stands now everyone will sign with A&M on the dotted line on NSD?
Thanks Jeff. So I guess it makes sense for them to go gangbusters this year while they still can. I just wonder how a class this size will effect future classes.
Impossible for me to answer that question. So many things change in the last month of recruiting, and I have no more insight in the coaches' plans and commits' plans than anyone else.
If this were TexAgs it would have been deleted minutes after you posted it with a ban.
"Sumlin isn't burning bridges because he's not pulling any offers." How in the hell would you know that? You only know what you are told, not what is said in private between coach and recruits nor do you know an innuendo that might be dropped. You only know crums of scuttlebutt that have been dropped along the way.
At 22 years of age you will eventually through the years learn not to believe everything you hear. Sumlin has an overcommitment problem that is getting worse even when you put a half dozen or so into last years class. This is classic and classless SEC type recruiting where hints are being dropped ever so subtlely, like a feigned concern from a postion coach about too many guys at the same position. It's sophomoric and disgraceful.
Quincy got the hint. LQG got insulted at Quincy being slighted and he's looking around. This is the consequence when the coaches can't be trusted to honor an offer.
Okay you just posted that there's 9 early enrollees, assuming they qualify. That still leaves you over the limit which is why hints are being dropped.

Perroni has already talked to Quincy's coach:
"First of all, the Adeboyeo news does not affect Quiv at all.
As far as Quincy, coach McGuire was open and honest with Quincy in that he felt he was making a big mistake by not going to A&M. McGuire wasn't happy that Quincy was worried about competing for a spot. He says Quiv is not afraid to compete.
McGuire wants what's best for his players but he is also going to help them so they are looking at other schools now. The only one he mentioned in particular was Texas Tech because of the fact that Kingsbury is now there. He said Quincy will likely set up a visit to Tech."
Doesn't sound like burning bridges to me.
Quincy himself has already weighed in on LQG:
"Quincy Adeboyejo @QuincyA18
No Me decommiting does not affect Quiv, he is Solid."
Where are you hearing he's looking around now?
that's true. never know who comes and goes in a program.
There is a way to do this without burning bridges. Not hard to figure out
If they keep landing guys that they're in on. Like I would say 3-5 more guys, yes, it is going to make it VERY hard to figure out. It's not hard to figure out how hard it is going to be to figure out.
Sounds really strange that a High School coach would throw a player under the bus like that. That is a pretty classless statement if true from a coach. That would effect the kids chances of getting future offers.
He'll be in the NFL in three years. That's our hedge bet.
we may also lose our two QB commits-- one to MLB and another to wandering eyes, but quite possibly the one to MLB.
Sure seems odd that the SEC would give them an exemption. From a far it look like the the SEC commiss really wants A&M to succeed given the TV sets in Texas. Other than Atlanta, the SEC really doesn't have big markets.
If you look at the schedule that the SEC gave A&M next year, it couldn't get any easier as it relates the the teams they play in the SEC East (Ole Miss, Vandy & Miss St). No Florida, no South Carolina, no Georgia. They have 8 home games next year. It sure seems like the SEC commiss wants them to be successful.
For non-conf games, they play Rice, Sam Houston, SMU, & UTEP all at home.
There's probably already back channel communication between parties involved for Quincy to accept an offer from Tech.
He might be the next Crabtree in that system, end up ruining one of your games in the process... ;)
not so odd, if we go by your conspiracy theory that SEC wants to make life easy for A&M...
FWIW, next year's schedule, just like this year's, is a one-off deal due to the toughness of having to bring in two new teams and scheduling a 14-team conference play.
Our designated cross-division is already announced and it's South Carolina... so we will play them each and every season. Just not yet.
Come 2015-16 season, we might have an annual T-Day game with LSU, and the USCe game to end the regular season, possibly.
