Can somebody tell me what happened with these guys' recruitment? They are beasting?
They messed up
Barnes wouldn't offer Forte.
9 and 4 at Texas sucks!

Barnes f'd it up
Like a boss... The way all Longhorn big sport bosses do these days. Just screw up
Barnes screwed up the Smart recruitment himself- level 2.
I watched FORTE the other night against Baylor and he can Play D1 Ball. He is a decent shooter and a okay defenfer. Barnes took Holland and we were all scracthing our heads saying he is not going to do much here. He has actually turned out to be pretty good and I find him to be better then Forte now and in the long run. However when you add Smart to Forte and just Holland there is no comparison. Barnes is an idiot.
Well what do you do when Smart leaves after this season, and you are left with Forte who can't create his own shot or run a college offense?
So you're saying Two players are generally going to be better than One? BRILLIANT
The comparison would be to Smart/Forte vs. Papapetrou/Holland.
You won't find a bigger Marcus Smart fan than I & Forte is better than Holland now but Holland has surprised me & this will be more of a discussion 3-4 yrs from now.
Holland already is an adequate defensive player, which is probably what drew the Texas staff to him in the first place. He's wholly inadequate offensively, but he is not alone in that. Forte's kinda the opposite. He's already providing the offense that essentially he will be giving them for four years. His defense, we'll have to see how much better it gets.
I have no clue if Texas considered offering both, although KU might have pulled off the same thing, and Forte's dad went to KU.
Having gone through 2011, with a bench that was full of recruiting mistakes/undeveloped players, I would have to guess they were not on board with having PF around for four years. And if they were gonna do that, it would be with a guy who could play defense.
If we're comparing the two, of course Smart is a stud. But if he hits the door, this team wouldn't have gotten a whole lot better.

Feed the rock to Julius Randle.

Like they said below. Give the rock to Randle and an improved Lewis, Frazier, IBEH etc
You lose Smart after one and then you have to give the ball to Randle or a much improved IBEH, Ridley, Frazier, Sheldon, Lewis, etc that is definitely more than two for one. Thanks for the Brilliant comment but I don't think I am brilliant just practical.
Thank you for making the one arguement to my statement that actually makes sense.
You think feeding Ibeh in the post would be a good option? You are in the vast minority. Ibeh is a good defender, but FAR from a guy you want to feed in the post. He's got a good garbage game and will hopefully develop, but he won't be to that level by next year without a miracle. I think Barnes should have used one of the two open scholarships to Phil Forte to get Marcus Smart and we could have still taken Holland. Chances are that one of PF or MH would transfer after a year or two once they got behind the other as well as Lewis, McClellan, Felix, and Taylor (and hopefully Frazier). Just my opinion.
That would have been a good way to do it as well. As for next year I have no problem doing it your way but all of that changes if Texas gets Randle
Obviously. Randle would be options 1, 2, and 3 if he were to choose Texas. Let's hope he does.
If Smart goes pro after this year, then it was absolutely the correct (long term) decision for Texas.
I was having regrets while watching Smart beat KU almost by himself down the stretch last Saturday, but I think this is correct.
Papi can always go pro to Europe early as well.
Nothing is for certain.
True but he seems to really like the university. I honestly think he, as a senior, will be phenomenal.
Lose our best 3 point shooter and best stand-up comedian?
Having Smart for even one year would have made this team much better and more attractive to current recruits.
Don't know how popular this notion will be but I wish we would have gone stronger after Michael Cobbins from OSU as well. He was interested in going to UT but they never went very hard after him. It sure would be great to have a big guy with a little more experience under his belt that is very athletic. Solid 4 year contributor IMO.
I wondered about that one myself. He was huge against Baylor last night. Without him OSU would have been totally stomped on the boards.
