I want to beat OU as bad as anybody but let's not kid ourselves it won't be a picnic. They hung half a hundred on us last year and we have almost the same Squad with less experience at LB on D. We have the same offense that really struggled moving the ball. They have more or less the same D less DEs and they harassed our QBs last year. Something like 8 sacks I think was the final tally. They have a very experienced QB. Infact, two of them and have talented Wideouts. Running back is a weakness for them based on what they normally have.
Having said that, I am very hopeful because we need to win this to not get into a three defeats hole with them. But also for the following reasons:
1. The D that played them last year is not the same one that finished the year. It was a much better bunch except for the
Baylor debacle. I think we have a better D than OU this year because of their DE losses. Our DBs are one year older
and we are faster at safety.
2. Our running backs are better. Wideout and TEs are also better. Our OL should hold its own against their front 4. Most
important improvement and the one that will make all the difference is at the QB position. That said I expect we can score
in the high 20s and that should be enough for our D.
3. Finally, we will be a much improved team but I don't think OU can say the same. Ryan Broyles is a huge loss. They were
not the same offense after losing him last year. That will be the difference in the game.

You need it spelled out, don't you?
In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion. The noun troll may refer to the provocative message itself, as in: "That was an excellent troll you posted".
Um, that would be you and your comments. If you need more help figuring out what parts of your posts were going off topic, be glad to connect some more dots for you.
Re your ON-TOPIC comment about your OL: touche. However, you overlook the very FACT you earlier had glee over, i.e., that we brought a fairly talented JUCO in, and hence, contradicting your own point, we are not returning the same line. Hawkins will be our starting LT. We shall see how well your vaunted returning OLine fares vs. our 9-man rotation at DT and DE. And again, neither you nor Brutha responded directly to the individual points Papa brought up re your OL. Just general statements about "they'll be fine." Interesting.
I also find it interesting to note that neither you nor Brutha have acknowledged the role turnovers played in 2011. We had 7 fumbles/int's, losing 5 of them. 3 led to direct scores, and another to a field goal. Moreover, the momentum loss from those turnovers was insurmountable. For the third and final time, I make the point that if we reduce turnovers to 2 or less, as we will definitely have 1 or 2 from you, we will win the game. Your offense that scored 24 points last year with a healthy Broyles, will get less than 20 this year vs an even better defense from us.
Lastly to your question re which QB would I rather have, I'm surprised you're not already clear. I would always prefer a QB who has not shown himself to be a loser in the big games over one who has proven he is a loser in the big games.
Just a quick response now.
I agree we have more questions. I maintain we have better answers. Wont mean anything to you until you see it on the field. Fair enough. But please, drop the "our defense is better than yours". That hurts the conversation.
Re the Landry and big wins. Look back over that list you gave more carefully, and ask yourself which ones of those teams were bona fide big wins. Are you really counting 2010 and 2011 UT? FSU '10, who finished 9-4 after preseason overhype? I agree with NU and OSU in '10, but none others. How about OSU in '11? Again, go look at his stats plateau'ing. He will never win a championship. He is not that kind of leader.
Enough for now. We're circling a bit. Always interested in new info. Enjoy your comments even if disagreeable.
What high school did you drop out of to use "sense" in your second sentence? You also have a couple of other mistakes in "their". But I am glad that you think "their" is a class at UT that teaches the definition of an internet troll.
I hope you post here more often. You really contribute a lot to this site. Thank you for your courage.
I think the fact that you would take Ash/McCoy over Jones shows you are trolling thIs thread.
Interesting that you think a Juco transfer is the answer to your OL woes. More inflammatory trolling from you. That OL was a sieve last year and especially in our game. It wasn't all the fault of your LT either as each of those guys played like Matadors.
Your math isn't so good either as OUs offense scored 34 points. As far as hoping that turnovers don't bury UT this year, I've already heard that the Sooners are planning on forcing more again this year.
As far as which QB has won more big games, Jones or Ash/McCoy? More trolling on your part.
Been reading a lot about this M. Stoops guy. What position does he play???
On Easter Sunday, looking way way way ahead making a prediction way way way way too early, I think we win for the following reasons.
1. The OU OL will do better vs the texas DL than the reciprocal. You guys have a JUCO helping things up front for you as do we on the offensive side of the ball, but I really dont want to comment on that until we see them in action when the lights are on. We have a few guys up front having surgery in the spring, but come fall, they will be healthy and we will be able to run a balanced offense against you guys. Im not saying we will be able to line up and run over you guys like youre sun valley state or anything, but we will be more effective this year than last. We only had one big run last year and gave up on the run pretty quickly. I read comments about how many people texas will rotate on the DL, but we are at least 2 deep across the front on the OL too. It will be a good matchup and we will win enough battles to win the game here.
As for the texas OL vs the OU DL, Our DTs are going to be solid. Not Dvorceck or Harris or McCoy good, but they wont be getting blown off the ball and allowing teams to run downhill on us. I fully expect to see Harsin run lots of delays and off-tackle plays if your TE can seal the egde. This match up last year was not close. I expect the texas OL to improve, but while we have lost a couple of DEs, the replacements were in the game last year as well doing just as much as the starters. So, IMO, if the DEs hold up in the running game against the big texas OTs, we will keep the texas offense down enough to win the game.
2. Running back isnt great, but they can get the job done. We dont have a Peterson or Murray right now on campus but we will see what the new guys can do coming in with a bit more size. One of the new guys will play based on size alone as long as they dont fumble and can pass protect. I think Whaley, Clay and Finch are plenty though, but we will see. We ran with power against FSU, but didnt really try to pound anyone else after that. If Miller and Calhoun had stayed, I dont think that would have been the case.
3. I do see us as an improved team this year. We didnt lose much at all. The only place we will be green is at TE. One year older and in the system to grow means more consistent play. Stoops has always improved his players and I expect that to happen again.
I dont see a 55-17 type game simply because your boys have some pride in themselves, but I have to see what Ash can do before I worry. I dont think texas can line up and run over us and win. Im sure you will have your moments, but if Ash cant make the throws, its going to be tough for your team.
There is nothing more dangerous in this world than a man with nothing to lose.
Our answers are pretty good man. I just take more of a wait and see attitude about it. We are a deep team outside of LB and we have a lot of experience. I have faith in our defense being improved this year, but we will see. You wont see the breakdowns on the back end like you did last year.
All those games were big games. The RRS is always a big game. The FSU game was a huge game. I dont care about how they finished, that night, primetime TV, on the road is as big as it gets. He performed well in those games. I dont think he is Bradford or White material, but he is a good QB. He just needs a running game more than those two did.
There will be some new faces on the scene for fall ball and I expect the WR and RB depth chart to change a bit. So, we can revisit this topic again soon.
The way too early prediction: OU 31 texas 14. I dont think Ash and the WR corps will help the run game enough to get you guys very much. The run game will only take you so far.
You're in a thread trying to convince Longhorn fans that your team will win a game that is 6 months away. Nothing remotely close to a "wait and see attitude".
You should work for Fox News man. Im talking about newcomers to the team and how much they will or will not contribute. Tell the whole story.
Yet, you predicted a score for the game. I agree with your previously stated wait and see stance. Everything else, at this point, is useless window dressing. Bottom line....you guys have a very good team. It would be a mistake on your part to ignore the improvements south of the Red River. Why don't we revisit the issue in September when the game looms closer?
Certainty is the enemy. I think.......
OU did not run well against us last year. The challenge our D faced last year was in the back four, offense not sustaining any drives--our D got tired from running--and QB turnovers. Our back four is world's better than they were but they will still need a heavy rush which we did not get last year. With a strong rush and better back four play and our offense staying on the field, anything can happen. The OU fans that are acting like they always beat up on us are delusional. Well delusional is a little light. More like on crack. OU seems to always lose another game when they beat us because we are their MNC like the rest of the conference. I wonder why that is?
106 yards on 19 carries is "did not run well against us last year?" That was actually good against a defense that prides its self on run defense. Whaley had 92 yards on 13 carries with a 60 yard TD. Added to 360 yards passing out of Jones, it was a good day running and passing considering 3 defensive scores didn't allow the offense on the field for 3 possessions.
Below are stats from the game. And yes, rushing for 100 yards is not good. If it was working you would have continued to do it. It worked in fits and starts. Nothing consistent. In fact we out-rushed OU but for the sack yards. If we out-rushed OU last year with the team we had what is in store for 2012 edition?Large doses of the three horsemen. Hook 'em Horns!
FIRST DOWNS 22 22
Rushing 2 7
Passing 17 12
Penalty 3 3
NET YARDS RUSHING 86 36
Rushing Attempts 19 45
Average Per Rush 4.5 0.8
Rushing Touchdowns 1 0
Yards Gained Rushing 106 153
Yards Lost Rushing 20 117
The texas running game was shut last year. Same as the OU run game. OU had one long run for like 64 yards, but we didnt really attempt to run it that much. The difference was that we could pass well and texas couldnt. You didnt outrush us because your running game was good. It was because we didnt try to run that much. We will see what this vaunted 3 horseman rushing game is all about soon enough.
Mark my words. OU's offense will NOT score over 20.
The jjloehr - bruthaman discourse is the most interesting on this site. I wish our political discussions were as civilized and intelligent. They should meet each other...may even like each other.
Wow, not over 20 huh. And now your boys are poised to get more than 20? Well, anything is possible.
I just thought this was apporpriate even though its not really
You were 43rd in the country in rushing defense and that is where you pride yourselves?
To the point, we were under your average by about 30 yards, so no it wasn't a good day rushing for us. Especially when you consider we average 202 a game with our top THREE running backs missing a significant number of games.
Our OL may not be great this year, but they will be good. But as Bobby pointed out in his article, their forte will be run blocking.
Also, one of you Sooners pointed out you were two deep at DL, well news flash, we're all two deep at every position. The question is what is the quality of that depth, Deep Red, bruthaman, bullmarket all talk about the potential of these new guys, but the fact is we have been hearing about McFarland and RJ's potential for what , three years now? After that long one has to wonder if they will ever reach their potential.
Peace out... See you in October... Bring a light lunch and tennis shoes, it could be a long day based on your expectations.
I think it was said best earlier...If their board is not available to us, they need to GTFO our board now and until their is equity in access...I am sick of them dropping in uninvited...
That is one thing about OB that I like. Rival fans, especially aggies and sooners, aren't allowed.
I didn't pay for a subscription to read a bunch of posts by sooner trolls. If I wanted to do that I would go to a free board.
