From Justin Hopkins at DuckTerritory:
Tyrell Robinson spoke on behalf of him and his twin brother Tyree about top schools of interest and the latest in their recruitment.
Starting to wonder if the real Mack Brown has been kidnapped & some sort of clone is running the show...I'm not sure I recall this much OOS recruiting in the previous 5 years combined
Kudos to Mack for listening to Vinny Cerrato & the asst coaches for at least evaluating more OOS recruits
Have to ask, who is Vinny Carreto?
the architect (along with Barry Alvarez) of ND's resurgence under Lou Holtz......later on, he was a disaster at the Washington Redskins as GM
Lincoln High, the HS for the Robinsons, has put out a lot of top flight football talent over the years with Marcus Allen the best of the bunch.
"audit" the football program after the 2010 season and recommanded changes in recruiting (played for Mack in college)
Wanting to play D-1 football AND basketball seems overly ambitious given how the seasons overlap so much. I wouldn't think that is very realistic these days. Is there anyone of note that currently does it??
and the bad news is "Texas is his dream school". Uh oh.
I don't know anyone currently, but Donovan McNabb, Charlie Ward, Julius Peppers, and Tony Gonzales all did it.
Charlie Ward did it.
Good list, HC. I immediately thought of Peppers and Gonzales, but forgot about the obvious with Ward. Don't think I even realized McNabb did it. None of those guys are recent -- I'm guessing there is much more specialization among today's athletes.
Don't get too excited until we actually get some to sign.
Nate Robinson? I think he did.
2013 or 2014?
Thanks textex & gohorns on info about Carreto. I read where there was a consultant but also watched Mack at a press conference where he said there wasn't a consultant other than himself. Good move by Texas, changes had to happen.
Texas has known about the Robinson twins since at least last summer as both football and basketball recruits.
Thats pretty cool. Hope the 'Horns pursue and land them both.
Also, what they have the Foreman brothers at Texas City and the brothers from FB Bush. Sign them all up!
The OOS recruiting budget must be a beneficiary of the LHN.
Send Ricky out there to recruit them!
Haha...pays to have the richest athletic department in the country.
Seems like it'll be hard to get these guys out of the west coast at the end of the day IMO.
You would think so, but these guys have been very high on Texas since they entered high school and were originally thought to just be basketball recruits. Some in the Cali area were even saying that the Robinsons would be coming to Texas last year(but for basketball).
