all i could do was laugh...
From the blog Dr. Saturday: A week after Johnny Manziel and Texas AM embarrassed Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl, Sooners defensive coordinator had some backhanded compliments for the Heisman Trophy winning quarterback. Thanks to John Hoover of the Tulsa World for sharing the quotes on … Continue reading →
If Manziel plays a Mike Stoops coached defense every week, he'll win the Heisman again.
If I had my arse handed to me like Stoops did, I would laugh too. What else can you do...besides cry like a baby.
Not smart on Stoops' part. Of course, isn't that par for the course?
Considering OU's own problems with players having legal issues, anyone associated with OU is the last person who should be making jail references.
Know excuses--an OU tradition.
Dumg aggy - dumb gooner.
But Stoops is right.
Hey, somebody needed to say it!
Like I've said before, why anybody would want to play for an unstable, volatile, classless and possibly bi-polar guy like Mike Stoops or Bo Pelini?
Just because a redshirt freshman beats your ass into submission on national television and had to be throttled before putting up another six points doesn't mean you should toss out snide remarks because of your own inadequacies as a coach.
He is right.
He is right but it is classless to comment on a player on another team staying out of jail.
He was right but was really stupid to say it publicly.
The kid is a ticking time bomb with trouble and has been since his HS days in Kerrville. Kid is extremely talented but just a matter of time before some issue surfaces.
I like how he said he's never remembered being so defenseless against a player. He must have a very short memory because Travon Austin just burned him for 339 yards rushing in his first game every playing RB. AND, he only had 2 plays. One to the left and one to the right.
You have the read the entire interview. It was taken out of context. He basically said if he can stay out of trouble he'll win multiple Heismans because he's that talented. Of course the media left that part out and spun the interview into a bash Manziel piece. In reality he talked up Manziel throughout the whole interview.
Isn't that the case with a good deal of the athletes who are spotlighted as a result of on the field success and the media attention that goes along with it, particularly at such an early start in to their career? Stoops didn't need to say it for everyone to know it. I think it's obvious it comes across as sour grapes for the beating he and his defense took at the Cotton Bowl. I didn't care for either team obviously, but it was fun to see Stoops jumping around like a lunatic on the sidelines while his scheme was absolutely getting torched by one player. For all the talk of Manny being a problem for us (and I agree), I think OU might be in for one with this guy going forward as well. There defense wasn't exactly stellar either this year when you look at it. WVU lit them like a Christmas tree as did OSU. Baylor also had close to 500 yards of total offense against them, which of course to be fair makes our performance against them in Dallas so pitiful. We've beaten that horse to death on this board so no need to expand on that one.
