He's got a good chance to medal. Came in with the 3rd best jump in the world this year.
I think the Russian may have a big say in this contest.
Anyone know what time tomorrow the finals are?
Since he qualified on the first jump I guess he won't jump again today? Anyone?
1:55 PM CST
Gotta love the Armenian who got the crowd all hyped and then jumped 3 feet less than the rest of the competition.
Sanya and ARoss need to get to making babies, like now.
The Brazilian tied Flash with an 8.11 leap.
Saladino probably just had the best jump but stepped on the line, major bummer for the Panamanian
No doubt... and for those that didn't watch Sanya, her time definitely didn't do her justice. She had everyone by 15+ feet before letting off the gas and cruising to victory. She looked like a different caliber athlete out there compared to the rest of her heat.
Yeah, she looked like she went out for a light morning jog.
I'm pretty sure each jumper gets 3 attempts in qualifying... but since he nailed his first attempt, he doesn't have to take the other two unless he just wants the practice or wants to try for a record. He'll get 3 more attempts in the final.
Which one? One is at 12 and the other two are tied at 14. If less than 12 make the qualifying distance only the top 12 advance.
Actually he'll get three more and then the top 8 will get an additional 3.
He and the Brazillian were the only ones that hit the auto-qualify mark. The other 10 qualifiers were the longest jumps below the auto mark.
Looks like Morgunov didn't make a qualifying jump. That has to be huge for Marquis' chances at a medal. Morgunov had one of the only jumps better than what Marquis did at the Olympic trials.
didn't make a "qualifying" jump or didn't qualify. If I understand it correctly, you can still qualify if you do not make the auto-qualifying jump. It looks like Morgunov didn't advance at all...(or is that what you were saying?)
New to this sport, sorry.
Olympic qualifying round photos.

Good stuff TX.
Looks like he faulted on 2 out of 3 jumps and his only good jump didn't put him in the top 12, so he didn't qualify for the finals.
Huh?? Ypur attachment shows Goodwin with a Q which I assume is "qualified".
He's talking about the Russian.
Oh duh. Thanks, Gotcha. Too much back and forth for my brain today!
