I saw on espy that they rated Manny as the #1 high profile assistant coach in line for a HC gig. So guys how does Mack keep him longer than a couple of years? (yes, I'm assuming that our D continues to perform at a high level this year and next). I must admit this assistant coach carousal on on defense is getting taxing.
It's gonna take money. A whole lot of spending money. It's gonna take plenty of money, to do it right.
I got brains. I got big ol' brains. I got dinosaur brains.
Sabotage the defense
Money whip him. Word is he and his family LOVE Austin and Tennessee is the only job he'd take that looks like it could be open and he'd come back to coach at Texas as HC in a heartbeat, we'll see soon enough what happens.
He doesn't unless he retires and Manny takes over. We're going to have a stout defense and I would expect Manny to be gone after this season.
2 years @ MTSU
1 year @ MSST
2 years @ Texas
Head Coaching gig somewhere.
9 and 4 at Texas sucks!

I guess I'm just old, but I got it.
I am only 33 and I got it.
If Tennessee has a bad season, I don't see them going after a guy like Diaz, even if our defense is integral in winning 10+ games. They would need a more stable/proven coach after the Kiffin and Dooley experiment. Now, don't get me wrong, I think Diaz will be a great HC someday but he doesn't have the skins on the wall just yet to take the reigns at a school like UT. Remember, Muschamp was able to help win a MNC, coached in the NFL and spend a few years at Auburn. His experience and accomplishments trump Diaz IMO.
It's about the money, Lebowski.
If I have the sage words of the quiet Beatle still stuck in my head tomorrow morning, there will be hell to pay... ;-)
I got it and I'm the only person to give Bobby an up vote! Come on you guys...
Make him HCIW!!! Wait...that won't work...
I had never heard of Manny Diaz until he was hired by UT. I think a lot of assistant coaches realize that, too.
In all seriousness, it's the nature of the beast. Greg Robinson, Gene Chizik and Will Muschamp have all turned the Texas DC job into head coaching gigs.
I feel like Diaz is here to see this thing through like a lot of the assistants are, but at some point an opportunity will present itself that will be too good turn down.

IMO the only shot you have is toss some coin his way, convince him he still needs a little time as a coordinator and to have patience in the possible opportunity down the road soon at the place he is currently at.
However, the right answer is he can't. The right job comes along and he will be gone. The bright side to that is he could prove himself as a HC elsewhere and maybe be ready when MB steps down.
A "nice" bowl would bring more dee-nero into his bank account.

SHUT your mouth!
"I don't want to talk about things, I'd rather do things. We just talked, now it's time to do!"
I just don't get the angst over Diaz. Mack has proven he will hire the best with his last 3 DC hires.
