Talk about the 2013 team with no mention of coaching/coordinator changes. Is that allowed here?
If Hicks and Jeffcoat return to their pre-injury form next year, then their injuries could be a blessing in disguise with the added depth we've built this year at LB and DE, especially with the big hole Okafor leaves.
I can't wait for next year. We have pretty much the entire team returning and will have some significant leadership back.
Likely the pre-season top:
QB, TB, WR, OL, DL, and Secondary.
Ash, Gray, Davis, Shipley, Walters, Hawkins, Cochran, Hopkins and Jeffcoat, Moore, Hicks, Edmond, Diggs, Byndom, and Turner.
If we can win 10 this year, we'll be a top 5 team pre-season 2013. Either way, probably a top 10.
With the graduations of Landry Jones, Florence, Doege, and Smith... it should be between us and OSU. TCU if their drug-runner is back after his stent in the clinic.
Yea, we gotta have someone that can pickup the slack after Okafor leaves. Jeffcoat will be that guy if he can stay healthy. Jackson was having a heck of a year prior to the injuries.
We could be back next year for sure....
Safety will be a huge question mark, but that's really the only glaring weakness on the 2013 team IMO.
I think the 2013 schedule is very much in our favor. Defense just has to be middle of the pack.
With them sticking with Phillips this year, it tells me that he will be our SS again next year. Not sure that I agree with that, but oh well.
Turner could be as good as it gets though.
I would rather see Phillips or Turner move to Nickel and have the other one play FS. Just wondering if Colbert is gonna be ready at SS as a RS Freshmen.
Would be a real bummer if the Horns can not beat OU again, and rise to be a Top 10 team.
"Don't know. Never had one"
-- D. Royal-Mack Brown how to coach a team after a losing season
I hope we can keep our coordinators. And yes, even Manny Diaz. Gotta win tomorrow. Hope Mack has the team fired up and ready to go. If not, feeling like this is a trap game.
We're not good enough to even talk about "trap games". This team can win or lose to most teams we have played this season. Dominant teams have trap games. We are not that.
I like the apparent progress these guys have made, though. I hope they have turned a corner that will set us up well for next season.
head coach as well. It's hard to make a run when you don't even win your own conference, something Mack Brown rarely does.
we thought our defense would be dominant this year... so i am not holding my breath until i see some real tackling out there at season's end.
I'll avoid talking "runs" until after the OU game. We need to first solve our OU problem before we can have visions of sugar plums dancing in our heads. Once we pass that test I'll be happy to talk "runs".
Could be ... But how many licks does it take to reach the center of a tootsie roll tootsie pop?
Is Mack still the coach? Is Manny still running the defense? If so then I wouldn't hold my breath.
I don't think so.
I'd be more comfortable if Mack Brown was not coaching against OU. The answer is no.
He is 6-8 against them, not the worst percentage. It's just that when his team goes down, they go down hard. This, however, is not an unenviable tradition he started. I recall his predecessors getting their ass handed to them on occasion as well.
2-4 losses if Brown is the coach.
If Texas loses this game, i bet ksu boatraces Texas.
Sundancekid, nobody has ever in the history of Texas football gotten his ass handed to him as badly nor as regularly as Mack Brown and it's not even close. You have to be kidding.
Mack's first two wins against OU were John Blake's last year in 1998 with Ricky and Major and Bob Stoops first year in 1999 with Major, Kwame, & Wane McGarity. Take those long ago wins out and add in the fact that we never came close to hammering OU like they did us. And of course another win for Mack was when Bradford was hurt and we won by 1 point, and another when Peterson played but had a severely turned ankle and could cut in only one direction and shouldn't have played.
Other than those points and the fact that OU has beaten Texas by 40-50 points on four occasions while we squeeked by in two with help from OU injuries, it' not been that bad.
Tell me more
Right now we're primed for a 2013 dumpster fire!
