I saw this cat at the state tournament last year. I don't think Texas has has ever had a wing player with Frazier's skills. He can handle, crazy range and more bounce and ability to put the ball on the deck and beat people than a guy like Jordan Hamilton.
This program needs a dude who can score the ball. A guy who will take over games. I really hope the visit with Frazier goes well because they need this cat in the worst way.
Texas has program guys and that's great. If you don't surround them with a guy like Frazier or Julius Randle, we'll be swimming in mediocrity for a while.
Agreed. All the one and dones we had since Durant left have hurt no doubt. We have a better nucleus of program guys than we've had in a while which should help tremendously, but nothing wrong with signing an occasional bad azz to sprinkle into the core team structure. Just hope Barnes can figure it out sooner than later.
He will have a hard time playing for Coach Barnes imo. His shot selection is horrible and his commitment to defense is not there.
I would be excited if UT is able to land him, but there will be some growing pains. And, I think you forgot about KD when saying we have never had a wing player with his skills. He's not a KD.

It's asinine to compare anyone to KD. He's in a class of his own. Texas will never have another one like him.
Agreed. But it is great to talk about possible recruits who would like to put themselves in those shoes. Dream big.
He's tried to get one every year, hasn't he?
2011--Kabongo (rated roughly on a par with Joseph)
2012--Ridley (rated roughly on a par with Thompson)
The idea that Barnes has completely moved away from getting studs to mix with 4 year guys is a false one.
Of course, the one and done's over the last few years happened in a rather unanticipated way, and that left the team in the lurch. I don't think Coach would ever not take a great player, or he would not be recruiting Randle and Frazier. I think we would agree that the reality is that the unanticipated roster depletion of the last couple of years and the dearth of more willing and available studs has created the need to rebuild with multiple year players peppered with gooduns where you can get'em. I don't think Coach moved away from going after studs either. His hand has been forced to fill out a roster. Not to be a sunshine pumper, but it just so happens, I think, that he has put together some pretty good freshman and sophomore players that would sure look good with Randle and Frazier next year, especially if Mr. Myck comes back.
Exactly, I just think evaluations have gotten a little better with Lanier back on staff.
I'll admit up front that I am biased since Coach Terry is my boy, but I'm not so sure about this.
Terry brought in Joseph, Thompson, Kabongo, etc. I don't see that caliber of player being brought in by Lanier at this time. I know he was heavily involved in the TJ Ford recruitment, and is an excellent recruiter, but to say he is a better evaluator than Terry is questionable. Especially when you look at Gibbs last year and Holland this year. Neither should be playing at a major basketball program.
Joseph, Thompson and Kabongo weren't evaluation guys.
Just because recruiting "experts" rate a kid highly doesn't make it so. Each program has to evaluate the kids and see if they are a good fit for their program. I would think everyone on this board would understand that with the way football recruiting has played out the past 5-6 years.
And, Joseph and Bradley weren't highly ranked when UT first started recruiting them. Both moved up the rankings a lot between the start of their Junior year and their graduation.
But Bradley was an Ogden guy.
I feel like Lanier is a guy thats good at bringing in the long term developmental guys wheras Terry was good for that Grassroots connection and brionging in those one and done guys. Then they also normally give Springmann the big fish as he's recruiting both Frazier & Randle now and also brought in KD.
Lanier just seems to be a better fit with the other recruiters in balancing out the roster whereas both Springmann & Terry kind of when after guys in the same pool.
I agree in the sense that I don't think he has ever been coached hard or pushed the way Barnes will push him. He has displayed better shot selection when playing AAU with Rose, Reese, Sulaimon, Anthony Collins & Julien Lewis so I believe the bad shot selection may be a result of too much offensive freedom. He is a very unselfish player as well.
Yeah, I knew Bradley was an Ogden recruit. Just showing that he was evaluated by UT before he became the #1 player in his class. When you look at the final rankings it would appear that he wasn't an evaluation guy, but that wasn't the case. Same with Joseph.
I should add that I have zero problems with Lanier as a recruiter. We will have to agree to disagree on him versus Terry as evaluator. Terry also was responsible for Pittman so it wasn't just one and done guys. Ideally I would like both Lanier and Terry on the same staff with Springmann. That combo would be deadly.
Bradley was excellent, excellent prospect, but he was not the #1 player in that class, despite what ESPN might have said.
Reggie Freeman says hello too. But other than Freeman and KD...well...uh yeah..totally correct.
Found this. Not much but interesting. Hopefully Randle decides in March so if we miss out we can go all out for Henry who I think is very good.
There are still quality prospects on the board in 2013. Here is a look at five of them, leading off with athletic shooter Keith Frazier.
Didn't know anything about Henry. Thanks for the post, NYHorn.
Postscript: I found this on Henry's offer.
