It bothers me when the village idiots agree with me.
........................how's the weather in New Mexico tonight? I can tell the liquor is flowing freely!
BTW I was in your city earlier this week............I tried to call you but you didn't answer................

It is also not out of the realm of possibility that things change and have changed since Lanier came back and the other coaches have stuck around. Rumors are rumors and nothing you state dispels or distorts them. And nothing I have stated supports or enhances them.
I have heard that Barnes has heard the good news, but I have no idea whether that is affecting his ability to coach. This program has lost its momentum and he has one more year to turn that around. If the powers to be keep him around after a season like this, then they are swimming backwards. Regardless, Barnes needs to treat this next season as a make or break year.
I think UT can win a National Championship in basketball, and that reasonable expectations would be to make the NCAA tournament every year. I also think it's reasonable to expect the team to compete for Big 12 Championships every few years.
The expectation our fans have of making it to the sweet 16 every year is incredibly unreasonably.
It does not bother me personally, when posters on this board resort to name calling. Aside from well placed humor, or even poorly placed humor, I think that we just have to consider the sources of such behavior, and realize that said sources must have an overriding need to feel superior in their own minds. All I can say is knock yourselves out. I am sorry that I have to share an alma mater with you, and I am glad that I have never had the misperception of considering you a friend.
I agree with this statement and could not have said it better.
I also want to add my two cents to all the rumors about the players and coaches. From what I can gather, MOST of the players want out. Right now a large majority of them are just weighing their options. Wouldn't be surprised if Lewis left, Kabongo went pro, and at least one more guy transferred. The players are just tired of the constant beatdown and unrealistic practices.
As for the Assistant Coaches wanting out, I'm not doubting it, but for different reasons than they don't want to work for Barnes. I think Springmann wants to be a Head Coach, so it's not unreasonable to think he's looking to leave. Same could probably be said about Lanier. Another possibility is that they want to get out on their own terms. They know that if they have a losing season next year, they could all be fired. The other possibility is that they know the Bev Kearney situation could produce some negative attention. Better to get out now than to wait and have to someone else make that decision for you.
Either way, this won't end well and the season looks lost already. And most of you will get what you want after the season.
At this point, I do not know what to believe - one thing for certain is something is happening behind the scenes - just not an encouraging situation
This is where I am. So many rumors flying around that I can't keep up with them. I wish whatever is gonna happen would just go ahead and happen so we can move on.
Hoops it starts and ends with Barnes because he recruited, developed and put them out on the floor. If he goes down next year it will by his own doing.
A Sweet Sixteen every year is not a reasonable expectation, but how about expecting it half the time or 33% of the time or even at least once in 5 years? How about something more than a single finish above a 4-way tie for 4th in those 5 years?
A partial list of teams with more tourney wins than Texas 2009 to present (ignoring the obvious powers like Duke, UNC, Kansas, MSU, Kentucky, Arizona, the entire top of the Big East, etc.)
St. Mary's is a special case for making the Sweet Sixteen and having a win in a play-in game, for three total wins.
Some of the teams that have as many wins
San Diego State
All the schools listed are either small schools in non-power conferences or schools in power conferences that are dwarfed by conference rivals, usually by rivals in the same or immediately neighboring states.
While KU is a dominating power in college basketall, the State of Texas doesn't have any, and there isn't even one in an adjacent state. Yet Texas, the University, isn't anywhere near being the Joneses in college basketball. It isn't even quite the Gaels. Over the last 5 years, Texas has been the equivalent of a good mid-major in college basketball. That has to change.
Up until the end of last year, I was among the biggest supporters of Barnes there is, but I was one that was beginning to see concern about the 3 bad years in 4 being more of a trend than a product of odd circumstances. The last year has done nothing to alleviate my concerns. Barnes needs to coach the team to a very good season, or he needs to take a hike. He himself proved UT basketball can compete at the highest level for a sustained period of time. If he can't get the program back to that kind of performance, then it is time to find another coach.
Six years is more than enough time to let the guy get the program into a regular level of high performance, which would be S16 every other year or more, regularly challenging for conference titles (even if always falling a game or two short of KU), the occasional deep tourney run (Elite 8 or beyond). Those are reasonable expectations toward which Barnes has fallen short for a fairly long time.
Do I want him gone? I'd rather he stay and win more. I just don't think he will.
The problem with UT basketball is the fact that we don't have enough guys that are willing to sweat. We have spent too long with half quart noncompetitive child's play basketball players and enough is enough lets hire a new coach I hear that coach from Clemson was looking for work. Jk but I do think we either need to hire a coach that's not afraid to put his nose in it (all legally of course) and not afraid to make the risky moves or coach Barnes needs to recruit guys that already does that.
I do not mean to show a lack of respect, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out what the Hell you are talking about! Could you translate that?

Neither can I, and you and I write some of the most opaque prosetry on this board.
"Prosetry" According to the Urban Dictionary ...
"Prose so full of poetic language, it's not really prose, more a mix of the two."
Dayum! Ya learn sumptin new every day doncha? ;)
If we keep this up, we may be able to fill the void between now and next basketball season!!! Naw!!! I think not!!! ;)
You both have my complete approval. Anything to get me through the off season. Talk about Bierce' overseas bank accounts which judging by our players he has not been using
Now, Jordan! Don't you be talking about bierce's overseas account! You know that $20.00 will only go so far! ;)
Some breakfast Tacos!
Yea! Bierce is springing for breakfast tacos for everybody! Place your orders here! Of course, that $20.00 won't go far ... Eh! He can use a credit card. Place your orders here!
I disavow anything these guys are saying on this thread, and breakfast tacos after noon? Do you guys have any idea how long they've been sitting under the heat lamps in the convenience store?
New Mexico breakfast burritos are an absolute treat.
Bierce, even if this were anything more than a fantasy, do you have any idea how long it would take us to collect? ... Oh, wait! ... Yes! You do know! ;)
Oh, yeah! Who the Hell was talking about convenience store breakfast tacos? Gordosan was planning on sending them via United States Postal Service! ;(

Anybody know why Myck hasn't announced he's leaving? We all know he is going so get it over with it. Please don't do that night higher agent bs. Plus this is the worst drafts in recent memory.
I haven't seen or heard anything, but who knows, he may not have had his work outs and received feedback yet. We will know in time. You also never know, just because our recent history with such cases have not turned out well for us, he could decide to come back. Everybody is different. He could have a mind set that he is good enough to go high in the draft and he could stay around to show that is where he should be. He also, may just like school and want to stay another year because he is enjoying himself in his college experience ... yes, that's the ticket! Maybe he loves his coaches and cannot stand the raw deal and grief they are dealt on sports forums such as this! ;) Now if you are still with me, I hope that you realize that the facetiousness ratio and unlikeliness quotient most likely increased with each one of those succeeding scenarios ... the point being, that few if any of us actually know this young man, and fewer that that likely have any real insight into what may be going on in his head. Me? I certainly don't expect him to come back, but nothing would surprise me ... and now, it's on to another exciting episode of "Bob's Burgers". I also have to figure out where the USPS has those tacos tonight. It's a long way from New Mexico, don't you know? ;)
Oh I definitely know
