"Leadership is wisdom, courage and great carelessness of self"
I don't think there is really any time limit to when you announce you are going to transfer. I would assume it would be at the end of this semester if he wants two years somewhere else. I source close to the program but not in the program told me he is staying but, you have another guy on here saying he is gone so you really don't know. My source says one thing but the kid could change his mind and leave. This other guy says he is gone but, guys change their minds every ten minutes. In the end every one including me who comes on here has no idea. The kid will say whatever is in his mind at the time and both parties will move forward one way or another.
Horn Sheldon and Bond didn't leave by themselves. They were encouraged to leave by Barnes and those around him because they would never put in the work during practice, over the summer or on the court. And that is from a source close to the program. When Dodds say's Barnes is trying to change a "Culture" in the program he is referring to those players. They left with Barnes blessing.
I posted his 5 year record.
Care to comment on it and why he deserves to get any more seasons?
Lol. Someone gave you some bad information, but that's to be expected in order to save face for the program. Sheldon, Bond and Julian requested a transfer of their own accord. I know it's hard for some of you to accept but Barnes has lost the respect of most these players.
I make no apologies for being a fan of Rick Barnes period. His over all record at Texas is very good. In addition his character, the excellent off the court record etc is outstanding.
I like him ... he should stay.
Not to mention even if they are correct, isn't that worse that their coach has given up on them and pushed for their transfers? Isn't that what he is paid millions of dollars to do? Find a way to motivate, encourage them to get full effort on both ends. I find it incredible that he's being applauded for forcing players out of his program (if true), especially the most naturally talented offensive player he has. Maybe there needs to be a little more good cop and a little less public shaming in his coaching repertoire to get the most from his players...?

Don't worry my source is solid or I wouldn't not write it here. Didn't you read where Sheldon's Mom said it was a mutual decision? Or Dodds referring to the Culture? All of which was in the paper. Read man read. Further I am not a Barnes Fan I want him gone now not next year. And I am not talking about Lewis only Sheldon and Bond and I will stick will my source as sure as the sky is blue right now.
I don't like the public shaming and I don't like Barnes either. I want him gone yesterday but what I said is true and I think 2 years is enough time to try and get a player to push himself to the limit.
All I can say is that your source fed you some bad information. I personally know what happened, so believe what you want. It's a shame that your source is attempting to twist the truth to shift the blame from the program to these kids.
funny how many dozens of kids have come through Barnes' program over the past 15 year or so that haven't had the problems these "kids" are having.
I don't remember Ivey, Mouton, Boddicker, Klotz, Owens, Tucker, Ford, Aldridge, Buckman, Harris, Mihm, Evans, Paulino, Gibson, Augustin, Abrams, Atchley, Pittman, Joseph, Thompson, or Durant having problems.
Heck the poster child for attitude problems, finally got on the same page with Barnes after two tumultuous seasons.
At some point the players have to be held accountable for not becoming the players they think they should, because Barnes has a pretty strong track record of improving players as they go through his program.
Lets leave it at this. I think your source left fed you bad info and you feel it was mine. And I never said the program and to "these" kids. I am only talking about two players and that are the two that are transferring. So when Sheldon's mom says it was a mutual decision for him to transfer what your saying is Barnes was so awful to deal with that he had to leave which is fine. But, how did Barnes get his mom to say it was a mutual decision? He has no hold on her or Sheldon. Why would she say "mutual"? Ask your source that and when Deloss is talking about the Culture what does he mean? Is he talking about Barnes being so awful that he forced these two kids away all by himself? Why are all the other ones staying? Is Barnes forcing them to stay? Hamilton and Bradley are the only one's I can think of that had problems with Barnes and Hamilton came back for another year. If your source can explain all that then you have me convinced. Once again though, I think Barnes has taken this program as far as he can and there needs to be a new coach.
You are free to believe what you want. I just wanted to share the truth about the situation. Also, it's three transferring not two. Didn't your source tell you that.
If the players didn't have to sit out a year several others would have requested a transfer as well.
And several others would transfer in. No one likes losing. This season was rough. I don't have any insider info but I haven't heard Lewis is transferring from a legit source yet. At this point it is rumor. We'll see what unfolds. I too, hope he stays. I like his game when he keeps his head in it.
I am not trying to pick a fight where there is not one. Losing and being yelled at and called out on top of it is no fun at all. There were lots of times when I hated my coach's when I played basketball. Winning tends to make you put up with that. Coach K is well know for being a hard ass and you can see him screaming at his players as well. However he wins a lot of games all the time. I thought there were only two transferring; oh your counting Lewis as well. If your not counting Lewis is there somebody else I am missing besides Bond and Sheldon? Daniel Gibson called home after a week and wanted to come home but his dad made him stay and he is glad he did. LaMarcus loves the man as does Kevin Durant and just about everyone else except Bradley, Hamilton and one other who's name I can't remember. It's not like he is the Rutgers Coaches. As for players transferring but not wanting to sit out a year then the really don't dislike him as much as they say they do. My problems with Barnes are these: he has never developed good relationships with high schools in the state of Texas like Mack Brown, when the team is playing he just sits there and stares never jumping up and down with excitement or encouragement for his players. He just waits until they come back to the huddle and screams at them. If that were me when I got on the court I would be afraid to do anything and his offense is always horrible but he never wants to admit it and change it because his ego is to big. I hoped that this year would be his last but, he is back at it next year. Which means either he turns it around or we have to suffer another season like this until they let them go and hope we can get someone young and one the rise. Investigator I have no problem with you, we just had a difference of opinion. Peace
This is from a poster on OB's (davert). I have no clue the validity of it...
"I can shed some light on the situation within the basketball program because I have information straight from one of the asst. coaches. All the coaches are looking to leave. Most of the players want to leave and even warned the Randall kid not to come to Texas because of Barnes. Evidently Barnes has gone schizo on everyone and appears to be unstable. He rants at players that don't run plays right when he has never worked on it with them before. After one game, as he was berating the team he told them they could play lousy but he was going to get $1,000,000 at the end of the season. He has taken all fun out of Texas basketball and I am told Dodds has called him in told him to straighten out his act. A lot of good that will do.
The bottom line is things are worse than any of us can imagine within the program. Several coaches are actively looking for other jobs right now. The program is dead until Dodds has the balls to fire Barnes and bring in a real coach. My source has been warning me of these things for two years and now it is all happening. I would not jump to buy season basketball tickets until Barnes is gone. "
horn1...............my guess is this "poster" knows about nothing about the interworkings of Texas basketball. The part about assistant coaches wanting to leave is almost comical. Is that the reason our number 1 assistant left a great job at Florida to come to Texas..............................Springmann has been on the staff how long? Ogden how long..............Todd Wright how long? .................what is the saying people who know don't say but people who don't know say?
BTW as for taking all of the fun out of Texas Basketball? If a losing season is ever "fun" then you are playing and coaching at a bad place. McClellan, while not a bad kid, was a bad fit for this program.

I buy all that except the $1,000,000 comment.
Just me but I can't see Rick saying that.
Don't know about all the coaches looking to leave, but Springmann's name is out there for the FCGU job
Unless you're going to name a source it's gossip and a disservice to what you seem to care so much about. I'm sure Barnes made people suffer with him through this hard campaign.
I would sure like to see some of these "anonymous sources" held accountable under libel and slander laws ... posting malicious gossip on a sports forum probably can't be be held accountable ... but, I sure would like to see it.
