There are 2 common trains of thought on this from reading the posts:
1. Jerry is pursuing a job that suits more to his qualifications and his goal of becoming a head coach or
2. Jerry committed himself to Texas through all of his words upon the acceptance of his current position at Texas and should honor his commitment and not put the program in an embarrassing and disruptive situation regardless of the opportunity in front of him.
That being said all I can tell you is that it truly has to be a difficult time for him as well. What is the right thing to do?? Hell, who knows. The problem that always exists with the fan base is a great passion and emotion for THEIR program. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. The other reality is with the powers to be - Mack, Dodds and the boys. Their camp is all about Texas as it should be and don't forget all of these guys have huge egos as well. Don't kid yourself and think any differently. If Jerry goes there will be bruised egos big time. And a few hurt feelings as well. Depending on which side of the coin you fall on well?? Jerry will always be welcome here period. However the bruised egos may get in the way of another coaching position if he leaves. If that is the case then so be it. The opportunity cost of pursuing an anything worth while almost never comes without some repercussion. Either way I truly wish him well and am grateful that it is his decision to make. I am not so sure either one will not come with regrets. Just an honest opinion. Just a way to look at it.....
