- God Bless Texas
I am happy for Jerry and wish him well. It's a no brainer decision.
I hope that Mack, Deloss, boosters, etc. see to it that Jerry never sniffs another coaching opportunity at Texas. I understand he never knew Fisher would leave, and Munchak be hired, but he had to know opportunities would come calling. He left the NFL ranks to come to Texas, if he was gonna jump on NFL offers, he should've stayed. His words ring extremely hollow. No matter how you spin this, this leaves Mack and Texas in a bad position, especially when Texas is working so hard to establish stability, and then when you throw in it coming on the eve of a junior day. Either he was trying to give Mack time to find a replacement, or he was trying to leverage the guarantee of a better position with Texas, which is pretty shitty really. Either way, I hope he never feels comfortable stepping foot on the 40.

I see your point Finn, but a) It is a business and it would depend on his arrangement with mack when he came in and what was said about his goals, etc and b) he helped save our recruiting class even if he is a short timer. We would have time to recover. I hope he stays but either way he has not burned all his bridges forever here imo if he leaves, just in the short run.
One thing I definitely agree with.
Jerry Gray is over-qualified as DB coach at Texas.
Signatures are stupid. You should block them.
One way or thewr other this needs to end tonight. W jr day sunday and guys coming in tomorrow. The last thing we need is for this coaching fiasco to continue w another class.
Wish Gray well but he needs to decide quickly.
This has drug out too long.
Frankly I think Mack deserves props for not firing him as soon as he interviewed (which I guess could still happen).
Mack's making $5 mil to take care of TEXAS not Jerry Gray and the NFL, the "it's business" cuts both ways.
Let's decide and either install a new D or N-E-X-T and we call Willie Mack or whomever is next on Mack's speed dial.
Yes, it is a business, so let's look at this practically. Assuming that he's interviewing with the Titans one month into the job...
1. If you're a DB already on campus or a DB being recruited by UT, how does this impact your view of Gray?
2. If you're recruiting a DB against Texas, how would you use this against UT?
If Gray indeed interviewed, I say it's time to initiate the severing/transition process. He's still a great ex Longhorn player, but let's not let sentimentality get in the way of good business practice here...
Disciplina praesidium civitatis
I hope that franchise DIAF.
I think people who are saying he shouldn't feel welcome at Texas IF he takes the job are taking it too far. On the other hand, when I was faced with a similar situation a few months graduated from UT and 1 month into my new career, I stayed put as I didn't think it was right to leave so quickly. Granted my opportunity wasn't giving up $1 mil per year vs. staying put and making $450k but it was a big difference in my standard of living. I think if he leaves for greener pastures we shouldn't give him an opportunity to coach here again. While the Titans job pays better, his job security at Texas is infinitely better. Unless Jerry lost his mind or became lazy, I would seriously doubt he would ever be fired from Texas. Based on what i have heard about him as a man, niether of those scenarios will ever play out.
Why don't we wait till he decides what he's going to do. As of right now, he is still the DB coach at Texas. If he had problem with not being the DC, why did he take the DB coach job? He knew what he was doing. I say chill out, let him decide, If he stays, great! If not Texas will be able to find a quality DB coach. I keep hearing Wille Mack Garza thrown out there by some posters as a replacement, i don't know anything about him, anybody care to enlighten me about him? Thanks!

Every coach regardless of level or sport is one bad season away from being fired.
