I don't want to come across as a jerk, but since the NCAA is arbitrary and ridiculous, should these kids be concerned with the "shopping spree" they obtained for their honest actions?
Without anything indicating the gifts were due to their activities or status as athletes, the answer should be "no."
I don't think I would take anything from an empty store at night, even if I left the sticker price plus tax on the counter. I think I'd step outside and call the cops, thinking there might be a burglary/robbery/hostage situation in progress.
