I feel that Swoopes will succeed beyond everyone's expectations; I know it is early in the game, but I feel he has the raw talent to be exceptional and only needs the coaching from Major to be very good. Stay tuned and see how that progresses.
If/when all you have to do to be #2 is beat out Case McCoy but it doesn't happen, to me it shows the very definition of lack of development. Overstreet is understandable, he was a talented athlete with a strong arm who might or might not make it. If he doesn't, no loss, he moves elsewhere or performs only specific play packages. Brewer, on the other hand, was a pure QB who, by now, hasn't even passed McCoy, a Sr QB with no future, and was even passed by the rawest of inexperienced freshmen. That is an indictment of his future role I don't know what is. I still wish him the best, for our sake and his.
I prefer to limit any critique of Swopes and respect what he was able to do in his first three months on campus. He looked pretty good Saturday night for a kid that is literally a senior in high school and has a huge upside. He is bright spot in next year's freshmen class, with a tremendous upside. We need more players like him. He will be a good one one day.
I think a move to safety is very likely for Overstreet.
I would not read too much into the fact that Brewer has not passed McCoy. There would be almost nothing Brewer could do, short of being truly amazing, that would have had Mack put McCoy lower than number two in his senior year. As Applewhite said, McCoy has a lot of experience, and that can help the team (too bad he has no arm).
Brewer is only a RS Freshman. Although he may have Chance Mock's luck bc he enrolled just before Swoopes (if Swoopes turns into the QB I think he can if he continues to grow as a player), the limited viewing I've had of Brewer does not make me think he is a bad young QB. He is accurate and fairly mobile; he just may be a tad short so the middle rush will give him problems with throwing lanes (can be overcome if he is quick enough with his reads, a la Drew Breez).
We agree on Overstreet. He was a hopeful take who appears to not have taken the steps to be a D1 QB due to his accuracy issues. Could he improve? No doubt, but do we want his athleticism on the bench until he does? I know I don't. I'd love to see him used in the DJ role - a few carries, some slot (if he has the hands), and maybe some wildcat.
If I remember correctly, Overstreet will start to transition to WR, not S. Applewhite thinks he is a player who needs the ball in his hands
I always felt the criticism of Swoopes was wrong because the guy played in a bad classification with little to know talent. Now he is playing with guys that can run and catch along with having good coaching he has no choice but to be better.
I thought the assessments of him were wrong because of that, people were using things against the kid even though he had huge upside.
I think he needs the ball in his hands, too. He looked really effective running down the sideline in the spring game.
Will be interesting to see where he eventually ends up.
Maybe Brewer WILL get mop up duty snaps in lieu of Case. That would make some sense of the situation, even if McCoy is hte one to come in during instances when the game is still on the line.
OMG, chuputa = bruthaman.
It all makes sense now.
Great post Bobby!+1
