That's what you get when you recruit with balance instead of going with two extremes.
I understand recruiting pieces but they can't all be projects like our roster
I still say the idea Texas has changed recruiting strategy 180 degrees is false. Barnes has always at least paid lip service to the need of a mix of experience and studliness. What we have seen is just as much a product of when there was and when there wasn't success in landing the top recruits as it has been a product of when there was an attempt to land them. It wasn't this year alone that Texas missed on some top 20 talents. Ridley and Kabongo weren't far removed from Thompson and Joseph coming out of high school for being considered one and done types, even if Ridley had some obvious physical limitations.
The difference is that Michigan's 3 or 4 year players are now in their third or fourth year, and the most ballyhooed freshman class that it has landed since the Fab Five joined the now very good experienced core.
Michigan stands about Texas should have been with the 2009-10 team with Bradley and Hamilton added to the core of James, Johnson, and Pittman, but that team lacked a guy who could do a credible job of shooting, passing, dribbling, and defending, and it lacked a coach who could figure out a way to get that team to get of its downward spiral.
It is also about the difference in keeping your NBA ready players for an additional year. Burke was a candidate for a first round slot but chose to return. That can make all the difference.
Rick Barnes is a honorable man and runs a clean program unlike the green and gold program on the Brazos
and our friends at Kentucky.
To think that Calipari was head coach at UMASS when they vacated a Final Four appearance because of Marcus Camby and at Memphis where they vacated 38 wins because of Derrick Rose was innocent and employed the Sgt Schultz strategy of knowing nothing shows how stupid some people are thinking he's a saint.
Calipari is dirty and it's only a matter of time when it hits the fan and he'll have to forfeit games or titles.
It takes just one 18 year old kid to blow the whistle to bring him down.
Barnes has been looking more and more for defense first.
He hands the offense to the PG and when the PG is good, things are fine.
This team was an offensive disaster. Remarkably bad in every offensive stat you want to compare with other RB teams.
“Kansas may wind up number one in these polls, but that would be so unfair to Texas...” -- Len Elmore, 2/13/11
9 and 4 at Texas sucks!
