I think Texas has the personnel to play the style of play he coaches at VCU.
I've been saying it for months.....Waka Flaka Shaka!
I love Shaka. I'm not sure all of our guys fit his system, but it is an easy style to recruit to, and kids would love to play for him.
Without question my 1st choice........out of guys that might consider the job.
Ridley, Holmes, and Felix would definitely be out of their element while Lewis and McClellan would struggle if they had to handle the ball.
Agreed. I think that only Croaker, Taylor, Papi(as a 4) and Holland would be able to fit that as of right now although I could see Lewis adjusting more quickly than the others.
I could deal with growing pains if it meant getting Shaka as our coach
He's going to be making a lot of money somewhere in the near future. Good coach.
I think Lewis and McClellan would thrive with more freedom. Myck and Ibeh would be good also.
Ridley, Holmes, Felix, Papi, and Lammert would struggle. But, I do think Shaka is a good enough coach to adjust his system a little to fit this group. Plus, I think Taylor and Croaker would be perfect also.

Need to be a good athlete for his system. Papi isn't one.
Lewis played in a somewhat similar system in H.S.
Is this like how we were all in love with the Boise offense and if we somehow got one of those cats over here, all of our offensive woes would be solved?
My hesitation with Smart is that I don't know if his formula of winning at VCU would necessarily translate over here. Being smack in the middle of ACC country, he doesn't fight with the Dukes, Carolinas, UVAs of the conference for the cream of the crop talent. He finds the fringe, but quality players that fit within his system and win, and win, and win. I just don't know if that's necessarily Texas's style or culture.
Let's face it, we get moist when we see a 5-star athlete, regardless whether he can actually play the game or not. While I personally place winning on the field ahead of winning the recruiting game, it's such an ingrained part of our culture, I don't know if it's reasonable to expect Smart to come in, and immediately be successful with a new way of doing things.
Disciplina praesidium civitatis
I honestly think he could do for our basketball program, what Sumlin did for the A&M football program.
He's young, energetic, charismatic, intelligent, and has a great style of play.
Shaka (not so) Smart. Big boys in control. Who else you got?
Yeah, he's an idiot. Can't believe we liked him. Let's move on to our next flavor of the week. What about the dude that beat Georgetown yesterday? I think he's the real deal!!
How can Ridley and Ibeh be so bad, and the McGary kid from Michigan just played his best game of his career so far. Looked athletic and could move and make basketball plays.
I thought the same thing as I watched Michigan. That's how a big man is supposed to play.
