Who would it be?
I know a popular answer would be Geno Smith or Landry Jones, but I wonder what type of team Texas would be with Colin Klein's moxie and decision making?
Good question. I think Doege could do some damage in our system with a big time running game behind him. Klein is a tough SOB but I'm not completely sold on him. Gun to my head, I'd go with Smith or Doege probably.
I'd take Smith and never look back.
I don't know what you guys are talking about, I wouldn't trade Ash for any QB in the Big 12

Jones or Klein
Gonna go against the grain and say pachall. I was really impressed with how he went throw for throw with RGIII. Its easy to get demoralized when that offense is putting up monster numbers but he kept battling.
XoGisele, Ashley Sky, Niki Skyler
Doege is kind of the forgotten guy. I know I tend to forget about him.
Love Klein's toughness as well.
With our defense an running game, I'd take Klein in a heartbeat
Whoever throws the best deep ball, which I can't imagine is Klein. Texas needs to stretch the field to open up the running game. Has to be Landry.
Geno Smith. I think he would be great in this offense and the type of player Harsin has started recruiting at QB. Jones is a system QB to me. And he likes to make mistakes or fail to show up when it counts.
Gimmie Geno...I think Klein is the second most overrated QB in the Big 12 behind Jones...
I'm gonna stick with Ash. He's working hard. I think he's going to surprise.
Geno. He has legs and a deep ball. Nuff said.
I am fine with Ash. He's got the most room for improvement, had the most working against him, and has plenty of the tools.
I watched Smith plenty last year. He's fine, which makes him gloriously overrated at this point. The guy is going to have problems in the Big 12.
Klein is tough. His arm is mediocre. Meh.
Landry Jones is a running joke. People talk of him as a top 5 pick next year and I'm curious if they've ever actually watched him play. His meltdown in the second half of last year was epic for a JR QB.
Doege, bleh. Paschall, ummm, wow.
If I had a gun to my head and had to take someone other than Ash, it would be Florence in this offense.
I'd keep Ash as well. I might look foolish later, but I don't think I will.
Let me clarify, If I had to I would trade for Paschall. Would much rather stick with Ash and ride it out cuz I think hell be better this year and beyond.
Smith and its not
i'll keep Ash
Jones can throw but can't run.
Klein can run but can't throw.
Smith can do both so he's the choice.
While I think Ash will improve and be a good QB in 2011-12, Smith is the better QB at this point and would give the team the better chance of winning this season. When Ash is a junior or senior, that may change. But for now, Smith would be the way to go.
Interesting exercise . . .
Love the Deoge comment. I do not think people realize the type of season he had. He had the 3rd highest rating of any QB in the Big 12. I think he threw a pick every 60 passes. Compare his numbers to Jones and you will be amazed. Plus he didn't get to play the Tech defense

275-0 scoring margin
Dana X Bible's National Championship team
Geno hands down
Smith is exactly what our offense needs. Deep touch for play action and a good running game. We're going to be very tough with Swoopes.
Just imagine the things VY, Colt or even Simms could have done in this offense. Think of the havoc created by Vince running play action boots off of a very competent running game with the option to run or use his superior ability to throw vertically deep or intermediate. Think of Colt's precision in an offense that didn't ask him to carry the load like 08-09.
I think we're going to be very pleasantly surprised when Ash starts to break out.
As for the question from the OP, Paschall would be my first choice. Landry is overrated and I don't know if Geno Smith is truly great or if he's just standing on the shoulders of an offensive minded, thinly coifed genius.
* edit- apparently autocorrect thinks the guy's name is Genocide Smith.
