Hear this blast possibly may have been brought on by water being used to put out the fire reacting chemically with ammonium nitrate creating a very volatile reaction and subsequent explosion. How many in West would have been trained to know this I wonder? Horrible tragedy. Prayers go out to all the families involved.
I live in a small community called Lorena which is about 30 miles south of West. Last night we heard the blast that far away. We didn't know what it was at the time. I am a teacher at a school that is about 15 miles from West and several of our teachers in the district live there. Two of our teachers lost thier houses. All they have are the clothes on their back. This is such a tragedy. Reports are coming in of more lives being lost. I pray for all those families. Such a sad day.
Cindy, can you find out what they need? My wife just cleaned out hers and our granddaughters closets and we have several bags of really nice clothes, the girls are 4 & 8 yrs old. We would be more than happy to donate them. However, after donating after the Jarrell tornado clothes is one of the things they get an abundance of.

Death till now at 35 according to the news cast I just say. Very sad.
They have enough clothes, the big thing now is personal toiletry items.
We are loading up a 20 foot truck in the morning with both personal items and over 1000 pre packaged meals (buddy of mine owns a My Fit Foods)
We also have put together over 250 zip lock bags (gallon sized) with power bars, decks of cards, tooth brushes/past, deoderant etc. My cub scout put them together tonight.
We also built a fund raising site if anyone wants to donate. What is left over after supplies will be given to the Victoria Life Church in Waco which is housing dozen of West residents.
One place you can make a donation is at the TSTC College Campus right outside of Waco. They are collecting donations at the Students Recreation Center there at the campus. I have listed the website which gives you more information on what kind of items they need for donations. If you want to make monetary donations the number at TSTC is 254 867-3787. I hope this helps. It is very kind of you to help.
No, but I coached there for a couple years. Know the West H.S. Principal/Head Basketball coach and his assistant coach from my time up there. Really good guys.
Well I finally got in touch with my former co-worker. Her sister and her house are fine. Unfortunately two cousins who were brothers were volunteer firefighters and were both killed. God bless them and all who were injured or killed.
Ross, our back fence divided West/Connally.
Baylor is sending out messages on Facebook that Connally needs help setting up the old school an hour ago.
URGENT VOLUNTEER NEEDS- Connally ISD is preparing to take in the students from West ISD who lost their school building in the explosion. Right now Connally needs 25-30 volunteers to help prepare their facilities for the influx of students coming in.
If you would like to help, report to Connally ISD administration building located at 200 Cadet Way Waco, TX as soon as possible and please comment on this post to let us and others know you are going. Thanks!

Here is what is needed today:
Volunteers in 4 hour shifts to unload at the Fairgrounds looks to be the biggest need, outside of setting up CISD's extra buildings.
Marty and Cory. Played summer ball with and against Beckham.
It's been so long since I have talked to her but I remember her specifically saying he worked forty years. I have been trying to email her to see if she is okay. I finally got in touch with her. I will have to ask her again.
The courage of people who run to the sound of danger not away from it.
Our prayers for them and for your family.
Been to the Czech Stop & Westfest.

as recv'd.....eerie similar....missile??
You 2, open your mind.....
the aluminum foil hat stuff is getting old. you don't think that the locals, many of whom were watching the fire and survived, would have missed seeing/hearing an inbound hellfire missile? you do realize that volatile gasses were being thrust into the air in huge quantities, right? have you ever seen a fire or explosion caused by a volatile substance...like gasoline fumes for instance? that's what it does.
this crap is retarded and disrespectfully distracting.
Sorry, kick me off the board if you will...but I have to say it. You're a dumb ass. And the same goes for the fellow up above who was more worried about where to place this thread than the tragedy at hand. Get a grip on life people. Grow up. Wake up. Dumb ass.

Nice elementary level language. Unlike yourself, unless vulgar language is used, and I am not a moderator, I would not infringe on a citizens US Constitutional Right to Free Speech.
Keep down voting your ego. Many Texans and Americans disagree with your view. Go back, listen, watch with an open mind, to both videos. Eerily similar. Why are other people's views, in your view, not allowed to express their opinions? What do you think your trying to prove with attacking your neighbors? Control your emotions.
Hundreds attend prayer vigil in West
A prayer vigil in West drew hundreds of people in the community up, as they came together to grieve and lean on one another Friday.
i hadn't downvoted you, but i've fixed that. there were vets on the ground watching the blaze who witnessed the explosion. just about every eye within a mile of the fire was watching it. if there had been an inbound missile, there would have been witnesses to that fact, including folks who would have been able to identify an inbound missile...as opposed to close-cropped cell phone video footage being interpreted by the addled brains of paranoid dorks living in their parents' basements eating tactical bacon and ranch style beans out of the can.
i loathe obama & co, the state of american politics and daily mourn the prevailing direction of our country in general, but if you truly believe that the US government bombed a tiny farming community, you are truly an utter fool. as for the first amendment, yes, you do have the right to open your mouth and put the world on notice of your stupidity, and that same amendment vests in everyone else the right to point out how stupid you are.
