How are the preseason polls in football basketball, and baseball determined? I see that football polls are already dropping and I just wondered if it was kinda like all of these so called NFL draft experts (Mel Kiper) who lay out there top 32 picks and get about 30% right. Is it just analyst who are bored or love to here themselves talk?
It's either that or a complex formula using
(Previous year's winning percentage * (Returning Starters + games played at FBS level by projected starting QB) / OOC schedule strength) + Q * endowment / (journalistic awards won by local press for exposing collegiate athletic scandals)
Where Q stands for the coefficient of the expansion of the TV advertising revenue generated by the conference.

Same way you would determine your answer if I asked you to give me your Top 25 right now.
They just make shit up.
Also, what bierce says.
Pretty sure it's just monkeys pulling a name out of a hat, or it just might be Skip Bayless. Same difference.
Never, ever underestimate the Q coefficient.
it's short-sided and usually by someone unfamiliar w/ programs overall. many factors are ignored.
it's based primarily on the previous season, returning starters, a star player, and the overall prestige of the program.
for example. Texas A&M is not the #6 team in the country. they're riding the crest of a season where nobody(including the SEC) was very good, Manzeil, and a high draft pick.
many will not look at the fact that losing Joeokel is huge. their best RB. three of their top four WR's. they have a hole at TE. they lost their top 3 players on defense. they play Alabama and @LSU at night as well as the rest of the SEC schedule. one QB turned ankle from a disaster at QB.
personally, i think Texas may also be overrated.
