Texas comes in at No. 13 and is the highest ranked team in the Big 12.
13. Texas Longhorns
Previous rank: 14
Longhorns coach Mack Brown is again implementing big changes, as his offense will go with a no-huddle, shotgun attack with a much faster tempo this coming season. Brown believes it's the best way for the Longhorns to survive in the fast-paced Big 12, and it's the offense that junior quarterback David Ash seems most comfortable running. The Longhorns still want to remain balanced on offense, so tailbacks Johnathan Gray, Joe Bergeron and Malcolm Brown will still get their fair share of carries. Brown also believes UT's defense, which ranked 73rd nationally in scoring defense (29.2 points per game) last season, will be more equipped to defend hurry-up offenses after seeing one in practice every day.
There's a new No. 1 in the third edition of the 2013 Way-Too-Early Preseason Top 25. Ohio State jumps two-time defending national champion Alabama for the top spot.

lol at tOSU. Why do writers always overthink things. Bama is #1 and until someone beats them in a NC or they fail to make it (unlikely) every rankings should start with them at the top.
Imagine if the Big XII hadn't destroyed itself.........it would look pretty solid on paper heading into next season.
No reason any school other than ALA should be #1
tOSU schedule is a joke this year so might as well pencil them into the title game though.
Also OU is ranked too high. Think they end the year unranked and it is a OK ST, TCU, UT battle for the Big 12 title.
Ya you can pencil them in to the title game, but Bama will destroy them.
It amazes me that they can discuss South Carolina's defense and not say one word about Clowney!
Texas is low, but I guess most have a "show me" approach this year.
Ohio State will probably go undefeated if they beat Michigan. Alabama will only be tested by A&M.
Last BCS year. Hooray.
Seems a little low (generous) to me. The D needs to learn how to stop the run for us to be ranked that high. If not for Oregon State's coaches losing their mind in the second half of the Alamo Bowl I think expectations would be a lot lower.
That's what bowl wins do for programs. As crappy as they may be, even bad bowl games can give programs a shot in the arm. It was big for us because Major was the playcaller.
Texas returns a ton of starters and has a lot of talent. Can we mold it all? That's why you see us at 13 instead of in the top 5-8. That and the fact that we get our rear kicked in Dallas.
That is the same thought process that had Texas top 5 with GG starting. I am not so sure they get out of the SEC this yr. Bama is a different team. I do not remember a time when they have had so many questions on the OL. Maybe the depth is spectacular, but it is not a given. If that OL stumbles this will not be a great Bama team.

Yep. Every year pimp the big 10 and watch them crumble against non conference foes and in the bowl games. I believe Notre Dame pretty much palyed a big 10 schedule last year and how did that work out?
i agree. tOSU record was a mirage last year. In year 2 UM may have them rolling but thats speculation until they play.
This will be the most entertaining B12 season in history. No clear favorite, new QBs at several places, great OCs at several schools have pretty made offenses plug and play. texas looks the best on paper, Okst and TCU look the best in reality, OU is always a factor due to a great head coach, IAst has a super coach also that always has his boys ready to go, KU will suprise everybody, Kst will play their usual junk yard dog role, TT is alive again with KK and BU is on a serious roll. Every game will be entertaining and the best part of it all is nobody can pick a clear favorite with any real confidence.

There is nothing more dangerous in this world than a man with nothing to lose.
I find it amazing that a team replacing their DL would get the top spot. I have generally found that the media tends to overvalue returning skill positions and underestimate the big ugglies.
The aggies are returning the least amount of starters in the SEC? Still rated 6th? Super tough league that must be.
By emphasizing the Run 'n Shoot over ball control, rushing and defense...??
"Don't know. Never had one"
-- D. Royal-Mack Brown how to coach a team after a losing season
that is called an NFL plan. Been a long time since defense won a title in the NFL, but dont tell anyone. That would ruin the urban myth
They do have 5 of the top 11.
I'd rank Florida higher than A&M, but that's just my opinion. I think they'll have a big season this year.
And for the record, before any Aggies fans try to put me on blast, I'd still have Texas A&M ranked fairly high. I'd just have UF over Texas A&M.
Top 5 for SEC:
Top 5 for Big 12:
Texas (for now)
Remember the '12 Seattle-Dallas game, don't tell Dallas....and...
I dont remember the Seattle/Dallas SB..
Totally agree LonghornSD. We have to improve our run D in a big way this year. Make offenses more predictable and allow Diaz to drum up some of his exotic blitz packages on obvious passing downs. I hope it happens. All the stunting of Linemen and LB's out of the running lanes for gaping gains drove me crazy last season.
PreSeason FBS Polls are a lot like ranking prospects and classes two years out.
