I think he mistakenly implies Mack Brown's recruiting woes will be long term recruiting woes for the Texas Longhorns. The tide may have changed, but at the end of the day Texas is still in control of the tide. I think there are a number of hungry coaching staffs in the state and in the country that could take over in Austin and dominate the landscape again, especially with Texas' budget and popularity in the state.
It's the nature of the beast that when a man goes down (particularly one the size of Texas football), kicking ensues. And rightfully so - Brown has brought a lot of this on himself and the program. But anyone suggesting Texas can't pick itself up is kidding himself.
Reality sucks for Mack.
- God Bless Texas
I don't think it sucks too bad when you're pulling in 5mil a year. I wonder how many Vols fans long for the days of Phil Fulmer.
Sounds about right.
Yeah, it's all cyclical.
How long you're on top (or maybe more importantly, how quiclky you recover from falling) separates the great coaches from the good ones. Texas will get back to owning the state at some point, it's just a matter of how long it will take and whether or not Mack is still the coach when it happens.
those newspaper guys are really on top of things......
Idiots don't realize that if you can't take a big class or have to take a smaller class, then you AREN'T GOING TO BE RANKED VERY HIGH!!!
The "rankings" really aren't rankings at all for that reason.
Is all the media jumping on the SEC hype machine? Seriously, how hard is it to look at the averages and see that Texas was 8th in the nation? Robinson isn't the first recruit in the Mack Brown era to jump ship at the last minute and RSJ was essentially run off!
Geez there are some really stupid people out there.....report the truth; not some emotionally driven speculation that isn't based on anything.
I think he's reporting the truth. The truth is Texas got beat out by teams like Baylor and TCU for recruits they wanted. That's most definitely a change to the way things used to be.
I don't think he's saying things can't get back to Texas being the unquestioned leader in recruiting in Texas, but, taking the class rankings completely out of the picture, the tide has definitely changed from what it was just a few years ago, IMO.
Winning will help recruiting. Being able to watch all the game without the help of the Lonely Horn Network will help recruiting. Playing better competition will help recruiting. Not having ESPN beat the drum 24/7 for a&m 24/7 will help recruiting.
Another year of defense like last will kill recruiting. And if that happens will may have to go back to old school football and have the players go both ways.
I think you are overlooking the Aggies and the SEC vs UT and the Big 12. Really no comparison today....think about it.
