Mabe save some DD annuity cash?
I am guessing both.
Wow, just reading a little bit in a few articles, she has a case. If she starts dropping names and making punishments known of others that have done the same, this could get interesting. I see a buyout on the horizon just to keep this from blowing up.
There is nothing more dangerous in this world than a man with nothing to lose.
Kearney didnt turn herself in. The student did.
It's also come out that Kearney committed a few NCAA violations with regards to her relationship with the member of her team such as providing the athlete with a car etc. etc. Nothing like that occurred with Major as it was a one time incident. Still not a good thing, but the situations are pretty far apart and not similar.
Perhaps she did, but just because you came forward doesnt diminish the act. I guess its all about interpretation, but on its face, its the same in regards to sex with a student. Now, it appears that sex with a student is discouraged, but not prohibited by rule, so thats an out for Applewhite. Maybe they fired her because of all the other stuff with it and I guess that was all discovered after the other stuff came up? Again, I feel that its going to be a settlement of some sort.
She had a two and half year relationship with a player and committed multiple NCAA violations. She was essentially toast as a coach once that got out. Would you send your daughter to be coached by her?
Only guessing but I suspect that Bev's lawyer has been talking to the UT lawyer about what he plans to uncover and then reveal in her lawsuit. Further, that this kind of monkey business is nearly system wide. The BOR will be confronting both the lawsuit issue and the underlying problem. Not many parents would be comfortable sending their kids into what may be perceived as a morally corrupt environment. Personally, I think the athletic department is the tip of the iceberg.
Yes because my daughter talks to me. This student may have been intimidated or something so she didnt speak; Or maybe she was all for it and didnt want to mess things up so she kept quiet.
Why would that question you asked me be different for a female trainer on the football team?

My point is that by having a relationship with a player that made her untouchable as a coach. She will never get another coaching job at a big time school because of it. If the OU strength coach had a relationship with a player then he would become untouchable in football.
bruthaman, I am probably one of the few on here that actually enjoys most of your posts and your takes. I'm usually not offended by you.
On this one, you either need to shut up or do a lot more reading instead of jumping into the middle of a subject that has been pretty thoroughly discussed since Friday. You can always tell the person that doesn't bother reading the prior and related threads in their entireties, because what you've brought to the discussion is ignorance from lack of information.
If you insist on interjecting yourself into this topic, have the courtesy of not bringing a previously totally ignorant position to the discussion. The two cases have nothing in common and if you knew anything about them you wouldn't make the stupid statement you just made.
It's not our job to educate your stupid ass on the matter. Do some reading or go away.
The timing of this incident with Major being made public is more than puzzling. It happened 4 years ago, has already been dealt with by the University and just before NSD, it comes out? I smell the putrid stench of Art Briles and/or Bob Stoopid all over this.
And Major didnt turn himself in, the student did when she checked "yes" under the "have you had a relationship with a member of the University of Texas staff" question. Then She listed Major's name, he was questioned on it and confessed. He didn't come forward before he was questioned.
That's why you can't trust anyone. That stupid girl had no reason in the world to disclose that. Married Major sure as hell wasn't going to tell anyone, and by disclosing it she made things far more difficult for herself and Major. Some people just don't think.
That's just dumb. It came out because 1) the "punishment" given to Major was an absolute joke and 2) Once Bev Kearny was crucified for a similar act she and her attorney let it out to show how the good ol' boy network at UT lets their golden boy slide while they publicly humiliate her and force her to resign.
It had nothing to do with anything outside Kearny and her attorney

You're just wrong but that's ok.
Kearney allegedly provided impermissible benefits to a student athlete over a prolonged period and oversaw the scholarship dollars the athlete received. Major never provided impermissible benefits and never oversaw any financial aspects of the student. Just two way different deals.

Bev Kearney's attorney is far more likely IMO.
So which part was I wrong about? I never said she did the exact thing Major did, I said she and her attorney leaked the info on Major because they feel he got off easy for doing a SIMILAR thing (which is exactly what they feel it was) and yet she was publicly humiliated for it.
So you're saying I'm wrong in saying she and her attorney leaked the info for that reason?
Or are you saying I'm wrong for saying the punishment Major received for having an extramarital affair with a student working for the football department as a trainer, the salary freeze that only covered time he wouldn't get a raise anyway and having to chat with a counselor, was a joke? If so, how is that a fitting punishment for what he did? It can be argued as a trainer for the football team that she could be under work related influence from Major the football coach.
I think you're kinda on the right track, but it may be better to look at it from the lawyer point of view...the lawyer's looking at the settlement $$$ & how quickly he & his client can get paid...the Major info just got his client paid much sooner
Doesn't matter if they feel Major "got off easy for a doing a SIMILAR thing..." the lawyer had the goods & has leverage...that's why it was leaked...& considering it was leaked on a Friday night, it was likely leaked by the school & not Kearney's attorney
Whatever the case, Kearney's attorney has the Major info & has likely has more...much more...this is about leverage to get a 7 figure settlement, which is now likely to happen...& not about Major or any other coach that may have something similar in their personnel file

Sorry, dont feel like researching through the archives. Two coaches had sex with students. One is gone, the other has had significant pay increases over the last couple of years. But, itll all come out in the wash. Maybe UT will get by without paying a dime, maybe they wont. Did the girl say they only did it once or is everyone just taking his word for it? What other staff was her lawyer talking about?
