While reading the Dennis Dodd story about the new Big 12-SEC Champions Bowl, this paragraph caught my attention.
"That's what makes Friday also so crazy and ironic. A couple of months ago the Big 12 and SEC were mortal enemies. The Strength Everywhere Conference had taken Texas A&M and Missouri from the Big 12. The Large Dozen was more than unstable. Now with a new bowl, a new commissioner and a new membership, the SEC is its new best friend."
I was reminded of the scene in the movie Absence of Malice, when Wilford Brimley said to Paul Newman, "I seem to want to ask you if you set all of this up, but, if I do, you ain't gonna tell me, are you?"
Maybe DeLoss was just sick of A&M (who wouldn't be?). After all, they helped screw up the 2010 move to the Pac 10 when they reached out to the SEC at the last minute. Then, after letting them keep more than their fair share of the exit fees so that they would stick around, they started begging the SEC to take them again. It makes you wonder if DeLoss held the door open for them and programmed their GPS for parts southeast.
Now that they are the SEC's problem, we're happy to be pals with Slive and friends. You never know.
Agreed, it is like in poker throwing a useless 3 of clubs back to get a King. You get rid of a lesser card to make room for a much better card.
I think Dodds is brilliant and most likely the best AD in the country, but no.
The amount of credit Dodds gets on message boards has jumped the shark.
I don't know about the rest of the story but this statement is certainly correct.............
"Leadership is wisdom, courage and great carelessness of self"
I tell you, refer to yourself as "the joneses" and people suddenly think you control the world! Lol!
I am just glad they are gone.
There is NO maybe about it... everyone is just sick of the ATM! Up-votes to everyone...
I doubt this but I do believe Deloss orchestrated the Arab Spring.
Yes. All three of UT's major sports are way down and struggle to win championships consistently and Dodds appears to be working overtime to blow a big win Big 12 expansion for no good reason but he remains infallible.
Way down? Pretty short sighted. Struggling this year for sure, maybe you should go with that.
Lol! Well played. +5 for you sir!
It's Dodds' fault that we've been down in baseball for one year and down in football for 2? Should he have canned each coach? It has been a whole 2-3 years since each team has played for a national title.
Basketball I might tend to agree with you, but pinning the very recent shortcomings of football & baseball on Deloss is silly.
njohnson12, had to upvote your OPs...Clearly, you win this debate with Insight...for some
silly reason, this guy clearly shows his negative bias against DeLoss...
Frankly, I cannot think of an AD in the country who I would rather have to guide us
though the tricky & strategic realigment ebb & flows as DeLoss...nuff said here!
Are you going to commit suicide if Dodds puts together a Big 14 with ND, FSU, GT, and Clemson as members?
Never believe what ADs or major corporations are saying publicly.
Aggies can f--- up a wet dream. They didn't need Dodds' or anyone else's help.
The SEC move was all on them. This new deal between the Big 12 and SEC is all about future realignment, which is, of course, all about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
So, so many threads.
This is all playing out exactly like Deloss wanted. Even LHN distribution is right on target.
I count one about you guys in the first 20ish threads. 2 on the first page.
