David Ash was asked today what's allowed him to not follow Johnny Manziel's path and what's allowed Ash to be the opposite of what Manziel portrays publicly (that's not me twisting it, that's the way the reporter asked Ash the question).
Here's the question that was asked:
David, when you see a guy like Johnny Manziel, the quarterback for A&M, going out and getting into trouble, may not get to play this season... How happy does it make you that you're basically the opposite of somebody like that. That wouldn't be getting into that kind of trouble that you know would be here every game?"
The following is Ash's answer:
“That's a tough question. My answer is just by the grace of God. I don't know Johnny Manziel personally, but I do know college football players are just people. Regular people and they have their problems like everyone else.
“Johnny Manziel, I've talked to him. He's a nice guy. There's a lot on his plate. There's a lot of pressure and there's things that can still be wrong in your life. Probably not very many people are interested in knowing what that is or what's going on.
“For Johnny, I just wish him the best. He's a great football player. For me, it's only by the grace of God that I haven't taken that path. I've been blessed with great parents. I've been blessed with a great community in Austin. I have problems like Johnny Manziel – somehow I keep them from all of you guys.
“I just wish him the best and I hope things work out for him.”

Classy all the way. Couldn't have asked for a better response.
Also, wow at the reporter's phrasing... pretty bullshit IMO.
edit: Holy hell. You did that reporter a favor with your re-phrasing Howe. That question is disgusting.

that's about as well as you can field a ridiculously unprofessional, flame-baiting question like that.
i hope the ags recognize it for what it is. kudos to ash.
The way I read into that it seems like the reporter was fishing for a headline. Ash answered it very well if you ask me.
XoGisele, Ashley Sky, Niki Skyler
No comparison between the two of them. David Ash was brought up in a christian household and was home schooled until high school. Johnny Manziel, well, he has a very colorful family.
Well David Ash is winning at life.
I edited the post with the question that asked to Ash in his entirety.
What a horrendous question.
A very thoughtful, Christian answer to a horribly leading question. That reporter is shameless for asking it, good for Ash.
Proud of David Ash, the man and happy he represents Texas. Rooting hard for David Ash, the football player.
Good words from a very well grounded young man. I'm so proud that he is a Longhorn.
sounds like Kirk Bowels searching for a headline for one of his 2-bit columns
Not trying to throw anyone under the bus, but simply put it out there because when you do a Google search for 'David Ash Johnny Manziel' the following headlines come up:
Texas QB David Ash Blasts Johnny Manziel For Offseason Issues
UT's Ash on Manziel: 'It's only by the grace of God I haven't taken that path'
UT's Ash on Manziel: Only by 'grace of God' paths differ
Texas QB David Ash Blasts Johnny Manziel For ...
Pretty terrible, IMO, considering Ash's answer.

Wow. What an incredibly tacky question. Who ever asked that shouldn't even be a blogger.
Agreed. Senseless question.

Did Taylor ask the question?
Who asked the question?
The Houston Chronicle comments section, which is usually the most despicable, useless, collection of offensive idiotic comments you can find, is unanimous in blasting the Chronicle for a misleading headline and praising Ash for his answer.
What a class response to a classless, crap question !!!
Great answer to what was an obvious attempt to create a headline and generate more page views.
Who asked the question?
I think we deserve an answer.
It wasn't one of the writers who asked. I'll leave it at that.
Ash is one of the most classy kids I've seen. I'll always root for him and Colt because of their faith and how great of kids they are, except in Dallas. Other than that, it's hard to not cheer for them. It was hard seeing Ash walk off the field in Dallas last year after that wrist injury. Impressive kid.
I was really proud of David Ash. He is the type of young man that leads others to do better.
