Agree with the OP
Except about the size of the guys
247 is very down on Texas in general
I think if someone did the avg rating among texas recruits that 247 would have them the lowest
Not sure what the wait is on Davis and Smith because they obviously are talented with offer lists like that.
National Director of Scouting & Recruiting Analyst
Duke Echols is an awesome combination players
Just to clear things up, Gerry had Duke Thomas as a top 25 guy in the state before the junior days last year.
I think the beef with 247's rankings is how no one from Texas is in the top ten and only two in the top twenty at 17 and 20. I'm fine with it. I just want to see them show it on the field. Rankings are fun to look at to pass the time but they're pretty much a crap shoot.
Which Texas player would you put in the top 10?
...RSJ is a top 10 national player based on his potential @ 4 different spots...I would put RSJ as the top overall player in the state...but when you're getting into the top 25-50'ish players in the nation, not sure there's that big a difference
I agree with you that RSJ is likely the best player in the state, but which one of the following do you put him in over?
Tunsil (top 4 can not really be disputed)
Also, Vonn Bell will end up top 10. Derrick Henry is an absolute monster of an athlete and he is #12. Bigelow is really good.

I would put RSJ in the top 10 over Marshall or Tyner...not to take anything away from those players, but an ATH like RSJ @ his size is rare...I'm convinced RSJ will be a better overall TE than J Gresham from OU or could be as good as D Johnson @ OLB
I believe RSJ could be elite @ WR as well, but I really like his athleticism @ OLB as both pass rusher & OLB in coverage...& this doesn't take into account how good he could be @ TE, either on the line or in the slot
Fair enough on Tyner, his video is only decent, but Marshall is an explosive athlete and will be used to perfection by Urban. Vonn Bell is a better player than RSJ, IMO.
Max Browne is the one I think is overrated. Montravius Adams' video didn't blow me away IIRC, but the national guys saw him in person and he blew them away wherever it was, so I defer to them.
Top 10 is serious business. RSJ probably ends up top 20, which isn't a slight at all. Some really talented dudes up at the top.
Tyner is also 200+ and runs 4.3 (allegedly), so that has some to do with his high ranking.
