glad he's doing well. that's all you can say...
When you lose 86 percent of your offensive production from a 3-9 team, you take new production where you can get it.
Disciplina praesidium civitatis
Best qb prospect we had on campus. Never got a fair shake. Hope he makes it to the league.
LOL at whoever downvoted you.
Methinks the fair shake was not had due to the Trevon Reed/Willie Lyles stuff. But what do I know? I just wear tinfoil hats Monday through Thursday.
Ash came in with no experience, no fanfare, and no expectations and earned reps with the first team. Nobody expected him to do anything at all last season and he forced the coaches to play him.
Connor had all the same opportunities, plus a year headstart on Ash, and didn't take advantage of them. I wish him the best at Colorado and really think he can do good things there, but let's not act like he didn't have a shot to shine here.
Connor probably made a rash decision to transfer so early in his career, but in his opinion, the writing was on the wall, he was never going to get any PT ahead of Case.
Ash didn't have many reps until they realized how much of mess the whole GG as the starter notion was. At that point Connor had already decided to transfer.
Connor didn't stick around long enough to get a fair shake. If he would've been around last season he surely would've gotten his shot.
Connor transferred four days before the first game of last season. The glowing reports of Ash working with the first team had been going on for much longer than that.
I agree with you that Ash's reps most likely increased when they realized what a clusterf*** GG was going to be, but if Wood had shown anything up to that point then I'm sure the coaches would have rather increased his reps than those of a true freshman.
I really think GG's failure hurt Connor the most. I think he had the potential to be very good, but he needed some extra time coming from a private school. As a redshirt Junior in 2013 I think he would have been a prime candidate to follow a three year starter in GG. But he just wasn't ready to step in last year, and once he was passed by Ash I don't think he ever would have had the opportunity to win it back.
It sucks, but I think it was one of those cases where it worked out for all parties involved.

In a nutshell, yes...Nice assessment...
IMO, Connor Wood always felt like the player Mack & Co took just to keep away from OU
Can't disagree with most of that. Nice take.
To me, he always felt like the guy that Major wanted, and Case always felt like the guy that Mack wanted.
Once they got to campus, Mack won out.
Woods had huge accuracy problems. He was not going to fly in either offense for us, and it was very clear to all coaches involved. Hope it works out for him in Colorado.
I think this is much closer to reality.
Whether true or not, I think Wood felt that he didn't get a fair shake at the backup spot. I think he's a kid that would accept losing a job to someone if he felt like he'd been given a true shot at it but simply got beat out. I think his bolting before the season even started was a sign that he didn't think he'd get a chance even if the QB situation went to heck, which it promptly did.

Signatures are stupid. You should block them.
He was, in my opinion the guy of the future here, until we let him become the guy of the present in Colorado. I predict he will join the list of guys Texas did not recruit or had leave from the state that starred elsewhere in recent years.
I can't say he didn't get a fair shake. His first year redshirt and second year he bailed on UT before it was started. For whatever reason he left he saw the chances were against him and quit. I don't want those type of players on the team. I believe in competition and he didn't compete. I do wish he does well next year but he could of earned his starting spot this year if he was patient.
You guys that dont think Connor got a fair shake are ridiculous.
It really is amazing how many better coaches we have in the message board world than on our staff.
Maybe Dodds will give the Internet world a look before making his next hire.
He didn't stick around long enough to say he was't given a fair shake. He would have had his chance last year had he not left. Total bs to say he wasn't given a chance. You make your chances in life.
Onward Through The Fog
"Connor has a cannon for an arm," sophomore receiver Tyler McCulloch said. "He'll lay it out there. He overthrew me by 10 yards on one of them."
It amazing that you know UT Football so well. Clearly, you are on the staff, right? Right?
If that is all you can contribute I would ask you do not even bother to post next time.
Accuracy and arm strength are two different things. Your posted quote points out his inaccuracy.
Agree. The "Your Not A Coach!!!" mental midgetry needs to stop. If you can't handle people questioning/discussing coaching decisions on an internet pay site then you probably should only be allowed in public while under supervision, wear a helmet at all times, and be handed a Lite Brite to take the place of that keyboard you've been drooling on.
I remember Wood doing some nice things in the Spring game, but there were reports that he was less accurate than GG, i.e. he would have trouble at times hitting water if he fell out of a boat. Mull that over for a moment.
Those reports may not have been completely accurate. I don't know, and his success during CU's Spring workouts would seem to contradict that a bit, but keep in mind that the Buff's will field a truly awful team this year, it was a Spring game, and their injury list would fill nicely seat out a greyhound bus.
I got brains. I got big ol' brains. I got dinosaur brains.
