For those who didn't get a chance to see the Browns-Eagles preseason game, Colt was the only Cleveland QB to play well. Colt only got one possession, but was 7-9 for 74 yds and a TD, even though he was running for his life on almost every play. That TD was the only one scored by Cleveland in the game. It came on a nice touch pass to the TE running to the back corner of the end zone.
The Browns will continue to be a terrible team, because they drafted a QB in the first round, when they had so many other needs. I can't imagine that Colt won't be retained as the number two QB, but clearly Weeden is going to be the starter unless he is injured too badly to walk.
The Cleveland announcers, when searching for positives about the game, were clearly reluctant to talk about Colt's performance, although they did say that Weeden did not have a good effort.
I just hope they trade him...............the Browns will be hiring a new President/GM and coach by the first of next year so they will be in continual rebuild mode. I understand there is real interest from the Cardinals.........they are very unhappy with both of their QB's
"Leadership is wisdom, courage and great carelessness of self"
The announcers know where their paychecks come from.
"I've heard some of our fans say, 'We were always an SEC school. We just didn't know it," athletic director Bill Byrne said.
That was obvious.
Thanks for the info. Are there anymore trade rumors or he is going to stay the 2nd qb?
I read today about Shurmur being appreciative of Colt's professional approach and work ethic. Nothing definitive though. If he moves, it's because some team gave up a 4th round draft pick or more for him.
There was also some rumores about Green bay being intrested in him as there #2
Colt has had a pretty good preseason, even though its been pretty much with the 2nd string of a pathetic organization with poor leadership. You would think the coaches/management would notice whats going on and who the better QB for that situation is, but the Browns suck for a reason.
Colt deserves better than Cleveland. Inept management across the entire city's sports teams. No wonder LeBron left.
Colt McCoy is a winner, Unfortunately he is with a team that doesn't know what that looks, feels or smells like. He ain't going anywhere and he will make it in the league. All you have to do is look at his body of work over four years as the Longhorn QB. On two of those he had hardly a running game to speak of. In the national championship-game year, he carried the team on his shoulders. I have nothing but the highest regard for his play and toughness. This is a good learning, growing opportunity for him and when eventually he goes to a good team, it will pay off handsomely.
Unintended irony. You are quite correct--right up until one of his shoulders gave out.
Unlike a lot of people, I didn't have as many issues with Greg Davis (except the obligatory -3 yard wide receiver screen each game), but why...why...WHY run an option play with Colt five plays into the national championship game when the basic running game was already shoving the ball down Alabama's throat??? Argh... I thought that I was over that moment. Back to therapy...
the Brown's draft has showed their stupidity very quickly. This whole preseason has shown that they needed to draft a lot of stuff and that QB was not their number one need. How about a REAL OL, ok, maybe a real DL. Maybe some ______________, you fill in the blanks. they needed a lot of things more than they needed a QB. Do i think Cold is the next coming of Unias, no. I would rather have RG# or Luck, sure. But Colt can be a fine QB and take a team as far as that team is capable of going. Get some players to Cleveland. Thats what they need, not wasted draft choices
They will not trade him unless they get a 4th round or higher pick for him. He is to valuable to trade for something less and the Browns mgmt know it.
I still am floored by them taking a QB in 1st round based on how many other needs they have and that Colt certainly can play in the NFL. But that is what the idiots did.
Trent Richardson is going to take a pounding behind that swiss cheese Offensive Line.
That organization is ran by a herd of idiots.
You missed the operative terminology and qualifier: national championship-game "year". You read it as the national championship game. Big difference. I think you probably agree that he did carry the team during the year.
When they drafted Weeden, I screamed so loud at the TV it scared the dogs.
