The Clemson board isn't happy about Dabo's comments, that's for sure. Maybe Clemson did indeed get word that they weren't on the Big 12 menu.
No other explanation other than you have an agenda that you just want to insert into every conversation for you to somehow jump from DeLoss isn't in favor of adding Clemson to DeLoss is in favor of mediocrity. Just silly.
On the 10 v. 12 debate, there is no doubt in my mind that it is an easier path to the national championship for the Big 12 champion to not have to play a conference championship game. Year after year the Big 12 championship game has caused the Big 12 to miss out on a spot in the national championship game that it had going into that game. This year, Oklahoma State beating K State or Nebraska would not have vaulted it past Bama.
So maybe you can call sticking at 10 to be a chicken way out, but really it's a strategy looking for the easiest path to the national championship game, which seems like shooting for the opposite of mediocrity to me. If mediocrity and making the most money was the goal, bring on a conference championship game and pocket the extra money.
That's cold. True but cold.
Well he plays the part REALLY REALLY well.
I don't know. I really think if Clemson was 1000% committed, and this was hurting them in recruiting, Dabo would tell the AD to squash the rumors and say something officially. They haven't said anything definitively either way.
Do you have anger management issues?
The HC has no say in a business decision by the executives that run the show.
I agree with Bobby; I think Clemson is out for now. However, I never really thought Clemson was ever really in in the first place, right now.
The major players here are Florida State, Georgia Tech, and Notre Dame. BYU, Louisville, Maryland, North Carolina State, Pittsburg, Clemson, Cincinnati, Miami, and Rutgers are all sitting in the second row, looking in. This is all about $ and which additional teams can generate the most tv $.
I think the big 12 goes back to 12, maybe with FSU and GT first. And, eventually goes to l6 as a true playoff comes about over a 3-4 year period. $ will eventually force ND to join a conference.
The HC is also the mouthpiece in such situations.

Oftentimes I accept that you know more than me in certain situations. In this case, I feel much more capable of assessing the relative intelligence of coaches than most who have only seen the people through the eyes of the media.
Sure, sometimes the media tells the whole story, sometimes it does not.
As it relates to this situation, I feel pretty confident that Clemson to the Big 12 isn't happening and that's based on the coach's comment and some other things we've been hearing all along - and stating as such - as it relates to money.
You can choose to agree or disagree as you wish, but I feel like my opinion is fairly informed.
Whether or not Dabo is smart and/or "knows" something, I think his public comments are a weak leading indicator at best as to how conference realignment plays out. 1) he's a coach. 2) we all know the realignment winds change on a dime. I won't be surprised at all if Clemson somehow ends up in the Big 12.
I'll take the over on that 1%.

Because a HC says something about it?
I find it hard to believe if people way above Dabo "I got my ass kicked by 70 in a BCS game" Swiney on the Org chart want to come to the Big 12 they will give one iota what he thinks.

So was it a matter of Big 12 not wanting Clemson or vice versa?
I still don't think his comments on the matter change anything if people above him want to move.
Clemson's not Texas when it comes to academics and/or structure. When the FB coach at Clemson speaks, he's speaking for the university IMO. Call it a cultural difference but that's exactly how I read it and am inclined to believe.
This just doesn't feel like a statement from the University. More like his opinion. Also read Brian said nothing has changed and BOT is pissed at Dabo.
It looks like the fans on the CU board are pissed at him too. Here is the CU247 mods take on it.
Swinney's latest rant, where he called out bloggers and undermined the authority of university administrators and the Board of Trustees, is yet another example where he chose to use 1,000 words when 10 would have sufficed. A head coach calling out bloggers? Rabbit ears anyone?
You might recall he has gone o the pulpit before to castigate internet message boards as "the devil's playground" and characterized last season's ACC Championship as only for those he deemed "all in".
What Swinney still fails to realize is spouting off opinions on the various groups of fans and media are doing nothing but dividing an already fragile fan base, many who see this latest outburst as yet another example of their coach talking too much and generally coming across as foolish and immature. This is especially true when the spotlight today is clearly was supposed to be for the Dabo Swinney Football Camp not Dabo Swinney.
One might point out that every elite program nationally recruits. Locally you could point to the national recruiting of incoming freshman QB Chad Kelly from Buffalo NY, QB Cole Stoudt from Dublin OH or perhaps Tajh Boyd from Tidewater Va which is no short drive to Clemson. In fact Tajh Boyd had narrowed his list to Oregon, Ohio State and Clemson. He was an Oregon lean for some time but ultimately came to Clemson. Let's go old school what about former Clemson player and video grad asst Brandon Streeter from Gettysburg Pa? I for one am glad Clemson went outside their footprint for these kids.
WR Keenan Allen from Greensboro, NC ultimately flew over Clemson 2000 miles for Cal. Alabama gets Mark Ingram from Michigan and a national championship and a Heisman. UGA's best stretch in a long time came with QB Matthew Stafford from Texas and RB Knowshon Moreno from NJ. The point? Kids go where they are recruited, where they fit, where they can win and where they can be groomed for the NFL.
FWIW I've been told tonight that Clemson Coach Dabo Swinney may not be on the call tomorrow night with the BOT.
Comments from Clemson's BOT Chairman David Wilkins two weeks ago from David Hood of Tigernet.
"This board is very committed to Clemson athletics and Clemson sports. We want Clemson teams to be the best they can be," "We are very interested in a football program that is excelling at a high level, and we would consider, as we should, any viable option from any conference if we received any. We have not received any."
"If we were contacted by a conference, we would obviously listen to what they had to say," Wilkins said. "And then we would make a reasonable decision. We aren't seeking that, and we aren't making any overtures about that. I think we have a responsibility to consider any viable component that would come our way. But we haven't been contacted by anybody."

From the Clemson 247 board
Swinneys latest rant, where he called out bloggers and undermined the authority of university administrators and the Board of Trustees, is
Does this change anything with FSU in your opinion?
I'm sorry but I think the guy is a yahoo. If the Clemson BOTs think their ACC "footprint" is worth $10mm per year, than they're even dumber than I thought. What are they going to do with USC (Cocks) starts getting $$ from the SEC network and building bigger and better facilities.
Dabo is thinking short term. Here and now. That's why there's a BOTs. They have to think 10-15 years down the road and do what's best for Clemson in the long term. Not becuase the recruiting trail is "tough" right now.
You make john holmes member look average
Agreed. Can be. May also be parroting the horse's view point couched in probable deniability. Doesn't follow that it is final, however. For finality the horse usually speaks.
Ever consider a career in politics
Holly cow! I can't belive what those people are saying about their HC.
I can hear Boogie Nights playing in the background.
I guess you had something to unload. Part of your point is entirely true maybe a little too heavy in the delivery--me thinks.
