This is from Carter Strickland on where things stand with Cayleb Jones:
Looks like the charges are going to be reduced to a misdemeanor for Cayleb. This is going to pave the way for him to play in 2013. Had they stayed a felony that might not have been the case.
This is not 100 percent. Right now what has happened is the case is ``pending reduction.'' Meaning that has been sent to the DA and they will consider it and go back into the courtroom on May 20.
The same thing happen with Jordan Jefferson the QB at LSU. If true, Mack will probably suspend him for some games and allow back on the team
Mack and staff need to run him into the dirt with physical punishment along with game suspensions and a huge demotion on the depth chart.
Make the talented kid work his ass off to get back where he was and maybe think next time before doing something that stupid.
He needs to be suspended for a minimum of three games for his bitchassedness
I think I would limit it to one game if we can demand his parents cease and desist from the jackassery they throw out.
I think Jones will end up doing some Community service type stuff then he would have to have a some fun with Bennie and serve a 1 or 2 game suspension. Cayleb could have served 2 years for the felony that was charged, but he is lucky for it to be reduced to a misdemeanor or his career could be in shambles.
The curse of Mack may exist for current players as well. Brad McCoy complains and Case gets in trouble. Robert Jones tweets negatively about Mack then this.
I hope there is no returning to the team on this one. Sucker punch that breaks someone's jaw is a goodbye infraction in my mind.
I say we make an SEC move and suspend him for the 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 8th game.
Don't think he should be kicked off the team; but punishment for the kid should set an example for the WHOLE TEAM going forward.
What he did was sorry and stupid.
This guy's on the right track, but I'd stick with just the 1st and 2nd.
Cayleb is one of the few guys on the time who has shown some propensity to aggression. This is a good thing, I'm tired of being the team of nice guys.
You mean the 1st quarter of those games.
yup. jails are just stuffed w/ guys who have never been in trouble w/ the law before, serving two years for a single punch. it's why we have all this overcrowding and can't put drug dealers behind bars!
If we really wanted to make a statement we could suspend him for half the games, just limited to the time that the defense is on the field. In actuality, given last year's defense that might equate to 3/4 of the season. He'd certainly have missed 90% of the OU game if this type of suspension had been used.
I really don't think the Travis County DA should be the one to determine the university's response to one scholarship athlete breaking the jaw of another UT student in an attack that was unprovoked, unless one considers the victim talking to a third UT student to be "provocation" because the assailant feels he has a proprietary interest in the third student's genitalia. The level at which the prosecutors desire to prosecute and punish Mr. Jones doesn't change the nature of what he did.
There is no appropriate response for the university other than to say, "Goodbye, Mr. Jones."
My guess is one game for Sanders and three games for Jones.
Luis Suarez says hi.
You're forgetting though that it was just a tennis player. Not like he attacked a real person.
about 3 people here got that reference.
Tyson reads this board?
Don't care. Suckering punching someone (much less a f'ing tennis player) is about as big of a bitch move as it gets and once a bitch, always a bitch.
I'm pretty shocked by the responses on this board.....Is it anything other than speculation that he sucker punched the other kid or is he in trouble because he broke his jaw? Either way, if you are hanging out at bars at 2am, shit happens. Not saying it should happen but it does. To me driving drunk is much greater offense. Innocent people are killed everyday by drunking idiots driving. I believe in most counties even the 1st drunk driving offense is a Felony that's automatically knocked down to a misdemeanor because it happens so often and there's not enough jail space.......I could be wrong about that but I think I read that in the local paper.......I guess the only redeeming factor in Sanders driving drunk is that he did it in Collieville
We should have a special wing for narcissistic spoiled babies who sucker punch someone over a chick. This is what happens when you " spare the rod & spoil the child.
Problem is no one whipped his parents.
Not if you consider police investigations resulting in the filing of criminal charges to be nothing more than speculation.
I said last month when the report first surfaced that a broken jaw by itself might not be sufficient injury to merit "serious bodily injury" as that term is defined in the penal code.
(46) "Serious bodily injury" means bodily injury that creates a substantial risk of death or that causes death, serious permanent disfigurement, or protracted loss or impairment of the function of any bodily member or organ.
A broken bone doesn't cut it. Had Swaysland required surgery such that his jaw was wired shut and he was only taking fluids for several weeks, then maybe you get there.
Yeah, sure, shit happens in a bar at 2 am. That doesn't mean UT should continue to house the asshole that produced it.
