Myck can do several things the others can't and the biggest one is create his own shot. The play at the end when Texas was up by two and they couldn't figure out what to due and it ended up with Felix getting his shot blocked and USC running down the court to tie it up; Myck would have at least created a better shot for someone else or shot one himself that would not get blocked. He can break down defenses and is tall enough to got to the rim and score if the defense is guarding the Forwards tight. He can also dish the ball to someone that is already in shooting position. I hope his shot is a little better so he can keep defenses honest and above all that he is a leader. But how the hell would we know he can't play!
"Leadership is wisdom, courage and great carelessness of self"
More than in any other sport, one player can make a dramatic difference on a team. While this young team has a list of issues to address as they adjust to the college game and to each other, their single biggest problem is tournovers. Even as a freshman last year, Kabongo averaged only 3 turnovers a game.
Those turnovers that are being made not only are bad plays, but they are feeding other bad results, from lost continuity in game flow to giving up easy baskets. I think Kabongo's return, and his ability to take care of the ball, would add a lot of stability to the team as it grows and matures. His unique ability to move at top speed while dribbling a basketball, plus his defense, should mean several more easy baskets per game for Texas. I think Texas would have beaten USC with Myck.
Also, if Felix were playing backup minutes, I think he would turn out to be a pretty good contributor. He has a decent offensive game, and plays without fear. However, the pressure of starting and playing 35 minutes a game will wear him down.
In the mean time, I guess we just have to wait for the NCAA enforcement coin flip to come up "heads," whenever that may be. Maybe it would have already happened if our name was UCLA instead of Texas.
Another benefit is the ball not having to be handled by Lewis, McClellan, or Papa more than a few seconds a game. Lewis had a robust 1:8 Assist/TO ratio today.
I know longer think he is coming back but that is just my opinion
