Part of his Nine Things
While I got ya, here are nine things and one crazy prediction: 1. Augie Garrido is not contemplating retiring even though 5-10 Texas has hit a lowly .
Whether you stand by Augie or not, the decision concerning returning next year should not be his - the AD should make the correct decision based on the best interest of The University - at this point, I do not believe Augie can rebuild this program in one year - just my opinion
Accepting poor performance should not be tolerated! Just a terrible situation at this point
The AD at Texas does not make major coaching decisions.
He may have to soon if a handful of programs keep heading the direction they are going in.

The lost decade...sad. Augie is the same as MB, RB and DD. They have previously been successful, Augie much more so, and they may sincerely want to fix their poor performance but they aren't.
They are old and tired and in the case of RB and MB they bever were really good coaches. Texas needs to do something that has never been done before...FIRE MB, FIRE DD, FIRE AG AND FIRE RB.
Name a building or a field after them. Commission a statue. Freaking give them all a $5M get the hell out of town buyout. But they aren't fixing the problems they created.
He is the worst of the bunch and is coasting to what I hope is a retirement.
Augie has 985,000 reasons to not retire this year and 1,035,000 to come back next year.
We call them dollars.
Spare me the protestations of the 7 figured salary men that their pride requires them to go out a winner.
True, but the real problem is the lack of introspection and accurate self-evaluation by the overwhelming majority of people. Mulitple studies have shown this. Surveys repeatedly show 70-80% of people feel that they are above average drivers. In his mind, Augie is still 50 and is the man to get the program back on track. Its rare for a person to know when its time to hang it up. That's why people need someone over-seeing them and telling them that its time to hang it up. The problem in Austin is the man who needs to bring the message to Augie that's it time to move on is the guy who most needs to hang it up; and with his boss under seige and distracted , it isn't going to happen.
You're telling me I don't really understand Melville, aren't you?
I've already weighed in on my thoughts about English Lit majors. I live in the stale boring world of science and controlled statistics. . I'll leave the allegory of Ahab's search for revenge and self redeption against the white whale to you. Did Shakespear actually use the bell as a sexual innuendo? The bell, the womb; the clapper the phallus. Melville bored the shit out of me, almost as much as differential equations did. I just felt bad for the whale.
By the way, there was one whaling ship that was actually sunk by a pissed off sperm whale in the 19th century. The whaling industry was lucky that the whales couldn't pass that information on to one another.
