Weekends usually lack a lot of reported news even though teams have to have their coaches out looking right now.
KU put on a show in Wichita. Must be irritated about not being the best in the state. (There are commas in the url, so you might have to cut and paste into your address bar, if you are interested, but it's just about the seniors playing against an all-star team of Wichita high schoolers.)
Received an LOI from Nigel Johnson. His highlights start about a minute into this vid from a championship game featuring a lot of pretty good players. His showmanship (post-dunk glare), court awareness (lay-up instead of dunking after blowing the takeoff), and empathy for the audience (sheepish expression after not giving them another dunk to cheer) are shown in the vid on the second link. Looks like a pretty good prospect for down the road but not a high impact guy early in his career. Your typical KSU-Bruce Weber recruit, I guess, and better than his offer list last fall would suggest.
Weber to host 6 camps.
I hope the week brings more news than that, particularly on the UT recruiting front.
Here are the highlights from the intense Capital Beltway Championship game between Princeton Day Acadamy and Riverdale Baptist School. Nigel Johnson lead all scorers with 36 points, Aquille Carr was second in scoring with 25.

Some KU guys got in some tournament play over the weekend.
Embiid went for 7 pts, 7 rbs, 1 blk in 16 minutes in the Nike Hoop Summit. He also managed 1/2 of Cameron Ridley's season assist total.
Conner Frankamp went for 20 points in 20 minutes in the Derby Festival Classic.
Kwanza Johnson being vetted for the open TCU assistant coach position. Kwanza Johnson is currently an assistant at Georgia, which is coached by Trent's former assistant, Mark Fox. Fox is in trouble, by the way. His teams haven't done a thing in four years except win the SEC tournament in an upset in 2010 after a 9-7 season. He's 28-38 in conference, lost his best player to the draft, and has no notable talent coming in this year. I suspect he'll be fired at the end of next season unless he pulls in a miraculous class in November.
Big 12 coaches on the recruiting trail
While there is eerie silence regarding Texas on the recruiting trail (one visit to a below the radar legacy?), other coaches were out and about checking on big names for 2014 and beyond.
Self, Hoiberg, and Drew were all in LA to watch Rashad Vaughn and others.
Baylor had an in-home with Tyus Jones. KU to do the same this week.
Self will also go visit Jahlil Okafor today.
Thanks for posting, bierce. As I said in The Eyes thread, I'll have a big Texas basketball update coming soon.

I hope there is news of coaches looking and talking with 2014 recruits.
Wiggins canceled his in homes with UNC, KU, and FSU. HS coach says, "It means nothing," but maybe the same organized crime syndicate that made Wiggins cancel got to the coach.
There will be.
This is huge. Angel Rodriguez is transferring from KSU to be closer to his family. His family is in Puerto Rico.
Missed this one. Edson Avila signed an LOI for OU last Thursday. So much for the theory that there wouldn't have been minutes for Dominique Elliott. Maybe it was a grade thing with him.
Add that with Josh Gray leaving Tech & the hits just keep on coming for the big 12.
It'll be a 2-team league next year.
You are an optimist considering how KU has continued to dominate the league.
Bierce, organized crime and off shore accounts! Witness protection? UT will have more news don't worry.
I never said it'd be us in that 2-team race.
It'll be between KU & Ok St.
And KU is looking to add more to its arsenal. Self visited Tarik Black, who has quite a list of suitors for his final season.
Oh, and KU landed Mickelson, too.
Jefferson is returning. No word on Austin yet.
Transfer U is at it again. Abdel Nader, a 6'7" forward from N. Ill. He's going to need some work. Poor % shooter who put up a lot of shots while suffering a 3/1 to/assist ratio, but he was on a hideously bad team, so it wasn't like there was a lot of talent to help.
The Kansas version of Chip Brown has floated an unsubstantiated rumor that KU is going to hire Mitchell Wiggins to be an assistant coach. Here's a link to the KU 247 board thread in which the users profess their disdain for such rumor mongerers. Should I tell them that I hadn't heard the rumor until they mentioned it?
It sounds like Sadler will not only not get the assistant coach position at KU; it sounds like he will take his services elsewhere.
Hosting Tanner Lancona, a 6'9" PF from California who is also looking at BYU and Colorado State. The guy is not terribly athletic, but he isn't a stiff by any means, and he has a variety of skills, including 3 point range, the ability to handle the ball, and a desire to get to the basket. The highlight video makes it look like he's played his whole life against inferior competition. That and he enjoys knocking over little guys who get in his way.
Stop the intertubes. Tech picked up a commit. JUCO Rob Turner, 6'1" PG.
