This guy is 10 times worse then Mack and he gets to keep his job! PATHETIC!
Come on - he still gets to play OU twice. As long as he can beat them, we're fine.
Are you deliberately conspiring to keep every UT sports team mediocre?
Barnes is a very good recruiter, but he is not good at getting his team ready.. Should have an elite 8 team with the Jordan Hamilton and Joesph, Thompson team and yet we lose in the 2nd round. His team under achieves by so much.
FWIW - Chaminade beat Providence in the 1st round of the Maui Inv in 1991-1992 season...Rick Barnes was the Providence Head Coach
Nope - I would have fired Barnes last year. Just saying - as long as we beat OU it will keep the masses happy.
Our fan base, in regards to basketball, matches Barnes' suckage. The season is young and our team is even younger. Don't you guys have anything better to do than fire everybody on every single post? I'm getting a little tired of it myself. Not that I like losing to Chaminade, but sometimes a wake up call is in order. Let's get Kabongo back and see what this team can do before we call out the lynch mob.
He and Mack have very similar reputations. Nice guys, good recruiters, a couple of conf champs since 98, struggles in crunch time.
Other than when the Horns have a mercurial point guard with the ball, Barnes' teams are death to watch on the offensive end. Frustrating doesn't even to begin to describe my feelings watching this team try to execute a non-existent offensive scheme year in and year out. Would love to see a Shaka-type take the helm here.

I tend to agree that we need to look for better options, but unfortunately they're satisfied with the basketball team just being relevant. I've been on the "Fire Rick Barnes" bandwagon for 5 or so years now, after watching our teams underachieve year-after-year. The most infuriating thing about our team under Barnes is how terrible we are at the free-throw line. We seem to shoot 50-60% every year, leaving a ton of points at the line and he doesn't seem to do anything to try and fix it. His offense relys on a KD, J'Covan Brown, Jordan Hamilton type player who takes the ball and scores 20+ on his own. Without this type of player (this season) the offense is stagnant, as we dribble the ball for 25-30 seconds before throwing up a contested prayer from deep. Lastly, FREE KABONGO!

Besides that pesky National Championship that Mack won, and the other one that he took his undefeated team too.
Besides that - yea "very similar"
IMO, we're finally going in the right direction signing 3-4 year players. This will be a rough patch because we really ARE that young, but I'm hopeful for next year and beyond.
Disciplina praesidium civitatis
I hope you're right. I knew we were going to lose some games, but to lose against Chaminade is not exactly what I had in mind.
That, and that offense that Barnes runs is horrible. Everyone is just standing around! Do they understand what they are suppose to be doing, but just not executing? I just don't think that Barnes is a decent coach to be honest.
afraid their national reps are very similar. great recruiters that underachieve with the talent they pull in. keep the head in the sand buddy. it works for you
He's mack on the hardwood floor rather than a grass field.
Until Barnes wins a national championship (or play for one), their reps are not similar at all!
I'm going to give you one more chance:
During his time at Texas, how many times did Mack Brown beat an opponent with equal talent, what about superior talent?
you couldnt be more wrong. No one is dismissing the NC
however, their reps are still the same.
doesnt win conference titles
goes to bowl games (the big dance)
wins a bunch of games but is iffy in the tough ones
they are the same guy coaching different sports.
In case you have forgotten our H less team beat USC which had two H. players- one of which was the greatest player of all ESPN history- RB>)
275-0 scoring margin
Dana X Bible's National Championship team
I deal in facts and reality... you deal in subjective, opinion based, horse shit. How could you even proove this "equl talent", "superior talent" BS?
Again, 2 undefeated National Championships in 4 years speaks for itself.
"No one is dismissing the NC"? Yet, you did, when you said it was the "same" as a coach that has not won a NC.
Makes perfect sense
We have a lot of season left and there is a playoff in Basketball. This team will get better but how much better. I can wait and see.
When will we get Kabongo back? When will Barnes stop being a dick to his star players? Why didn't McClellan start yesterday against USC?
This team may not be able to make the tournament at all. This is a very difficult schedule they will be playing and they are a horrible offensive team. Losing to these middle of the road teams won't help them when they are on the bubble trying to get a spot in the dance.
As AvidFan1 said, "We have a lot of season left, and there is a playoff in basketball. ...". We are in the middle of a change of recruiting philosophy from having to rebuild the team each year because our "one and doner's" are seemingly done before their first year is over, and building a team with players who will be and want to be here for more than a year, and hopefully some pretty good additions to the team over the next couple of years. I enjoy watching the development of teams and players over time. That means paying attention and making judgements over time. People wanted to fire Coach Barnes when we had one and done players, and now, some people want to fire him because we are having growing pains with this new recruiting philosophy. Frankly, I find the "Fire'em for Whatever Reason Boo Birds" to be a tad tiresome as they wrap their robes of entitlement around themselves. I hate to say this, but your bare butt is hanging out, because your robes of entitlement are not real. Relax and enjoy the ride. Nobody here is going to have any effect on the outcome of the season, unless, perhaps they get out to a game and support their team. Gee! what a concept!
They have the same reputations across the sports spectrum. The NC is what it is and for many it was the result of one player and not the HC.
What's our record against the last ten Top 10 teams we've played ?
