I really think Connor Brewer or Jalen Overstreet might be the second best QB on campus behind Ash. Is there any chance that the backup job can be won away from Case in fall camp?
I doubt it. I'd imagine that barring injury, Brewer will redshirt. I wouldn't be surprised if Overstreet ends up getting more snaps than Case if the coaches decide that he's the best option for the wildcat/athletic quarterback package though.
I would rather have an experienced signal caller at backup then a true freshman. We tried that experiment last year kind of.

I agree on Overstreet, I see him as a nice addition at wildcat...but never a step back in the pocket QB....I really hope Brewer gets to redshirt this year...
Barring injury to Ash or Case, there is no way a true freshman will be the backup QB this year. Overstreet may get quality reps as the change-of-pace guy but he's not beating out a junior for backup.
I assume this is your first year to follow Texas football.
Connor Brewer or Jalen Overstreet could be the BEST QB on campus and not jump Case on the depth chart.
It's just not going to happen.
I'm starting to think the only reason why there is a "battle" for the starting position in the first place is just to keep Case engaged enough to where we don't even have to think about burning Brewer or Overstreet's redshirts.
Now, if Ash were to get injured early next season, then that could get interesting...
Let's just hope that doesn't happen.
Quoted for truth. Gotta make sure there are no more QB transfers before the seasons starts.
I've been reading good reports about Case in the 7 on 7 workouts. I'm hoping Brewer redshirts and Overstreet gets some Wildhorn snaps.
Why do you think they are better?
Could they beat him out? Yes.
Will they? Barring injury, I highly, highly doubt it, like in the 95%+ range.
The one caveat is the use of the zone read. If Overstreet proves to be reliable with the ball, he could get more snaps than the normal backup would.
That's my take.

Throughout my CFB fandom I've always been an advocate of putting the best players in the positions they deserve regardless of the implications. Not anymore. We've got to develop depth at the QB position. Connor Brewer needs to red-shirt, for himself and for this program.
This in spades. Case is backup come hell or high water even if Dan Marino, Jr was on campus as a freshman and was flawless in practice.
Conner might be the best QB on campus, seeing as he has been running this offence the longest ( high school system was a clone of harsin's system) still I want him on the bench, but I could see him starting next year. He may just be too good to sit, unless Ash has a truly break out year.
I just don't think Case has better physical tools than Brewer or Overstreet. I think Overstreet as a Wild QB will play and can be effective and I wouldn't be surprised if the staff maybe sees something they can cultivate in Brewer as opposed to Case who kind of is what he is -- a pretty average college quarterback.
