Was it OJ smith the dt from airline high in louisiana that was mentioned on friday
OJ Smith does not have a Texas offer guys.
He's a prospect Texas likes, but he has NOT been offered.
A long ways to go academically guys.
National Director of Scouting & Recruiting Analyst
Every time I see a new offer has gone out I laugh and go check 247...
Gerry, Oj smith said on his twitter that we offered, i assume its a conditional offer based on his grades
He might be saying that, but Gerry is correct. He does not have an offer.
Well OJ sure is under the impression he has an offer and says he will be back in June for the Summer camp and UT is "under serious consideration" (quotes to OB).
Another recruit confused about an offer?
Anthony Jones was also under the impression he had an offer but that was proven to not be the case.
Gerry was correct in saying that he's got a long way to go in the classroom (that I know of). As a player, all things equal Smith would have been offered by Texas and a lot of other programs. He's a quality prospect.
Academics are going to be a major hurdle for Smith, period.
That would explain his lack of offers.
I still can't understand why so many recruits believe they have offers from UT when apparently they don't. Can our coaches not communicate very good or what exactly is the cause for this to keep happening?
I understand that it can be frustrating, and I get that it's something that we can blame the coaches for, but at the same time, kids inflate their offer list all the time. And the kids that are truly offered dont seem to have much confusion. My guess is that our staff doesn't tell kids that they are not receiving an offer either. So maybe the kids are to blame too?
Not a committable offer. That's the jist of it.
When mods say that the kid doesn't have an offer they mean that they don't have a committable offer from Texas. IMO, the only reason Texas fans have a gripe with it is because recruiting was handled very differently for the past number of years. Texas is throwing out quite a few more offers lately, but not all offers are created the same.

Teenage kids are a confused lot. This happens all over the place, not just with Texas.
Some recruits just lie...it's as simple as that. They want to tell their friends that they have a UT offer
I think that part of the problem is that the coaches want to show all of their recruits love so the kids will consider Texas more. So when Texas really likes a player but hasn't pulled the trigger on offering him, they have to dance around the subject instead of saying straight up whether or not there is a formal offer.
That's every school. I once had a coach tell me, "Our philosophy is that we want every kid to FEEL like they have an offer without us ever saying it."
